Or the winner gets a Bye into the 3rd round of the FA cup?

FA cup third round in January. JPT final in April. Or are you suggesting the season after? plus it would create an odd number of teams in the draw.

I am sure there is an odd number of entries in the FA Cup every other year at least, but it will be all sorted by byes being offered in the qualifying rounds.

the irony that fl clubs in the past have been fined for not using "regular" 1st teamers in this competition and now this... FL clubs should boycott it

Even if the clubs don't boycott it, many of the fans will, including me. I've got a feeling the whole idea will be quietly dropped, as clubs will realise crowds will be well down and they aren't going to be properly compensated for the financial loss. We couldn't make a profit when we WON the flaming thing!

I strongly suspect the man behind this is Greg Dyke.

Well Mr Dyke, I can tell you and the EFL, that if you think I'm going to turn up to watch my team provide practice opposition to Premier League youth teams you can go and fiddle. The trophy, and my club's participation, will have no interest for me whatsoever. Without the fans there is no football. I've signed the petition.

He voted for it, whether that be at the start in the middle or at the end, he voted for it.

Apparently 7 clubs voted against, 6 of which have gone public, these being

AFC Wimbledon, Accrington Stanley, Hartlepool, Luton, Port Vale and Portsmouth

So basically we're left with just seven out of 48 clubs with any sense of honour and dignity.

The only silver lining to this (and it is a very thin lining) is it may give supporters of lower league teams the chance to 'chalk off' grounds they wouldn't normally have got to see their team play at.

Had it been in previous season, it may have lead to more Premier League youngsters dropping down the leagues on loan as you would get to see them in action gains the correct level opposition, but then given short term "emergency" loans are scrapped for next season, even that benefit is lost.

That is not a silver lining , it is likely to be an unfortunate reality, loads will do it as the games will be local.\

It'll give the bigger clubs an opportunity to have a rite good larf
