It may be the government but is more likely some pro-Putin agency intent on whipping up yet more anti-Western nationalistic fervour among a bovine population. It seems to be working, judging by the reaction of some (decent lads, generally) I used to play against in Siberia.

Disqualifying Russia would actually feed those fires and play into the hands of the propagandists and their image of Russia as an unfairly victimised pariah.

Just seen the Channel 4 scenes on the net- very nasty!
The poor bloke with a bag and his hand in the air who got punched!

Then there was the Russian sports minister goading their fans. (Although you'd have thought he'd be more interested in overturning the current ban on Russia from the Olympics due to doping...)

No, it's a recognised training method for loads of organisations- but was created for Mossad

I'm fully aware of that thanks.

However I'm not aware of the fact that it is heavily used by former Eastern Bloc countries.

EUFA have spent years turning a blind eye to the racist/anti semetic and hooligan behaviour of the fans various eastern European countries as well as Turkey,Spain,Portugal.etc.

It's just so easy to continue to blame everything on 'The English Disease'.

Well all those countries supporters are in France, lets see how they behave compared with others

I agreed with your original post about attitudes in Russia having experienced it myself but I'm afraid I can't agree with this new tack. In fact I'm starting to deeply regret it

New tack? The theory that someone may be funding it, do you mean? Regretting what?
These go to eleven.

I have to say I know Middle East, and I believe him on this. From my experience he isn't the type to go trashing bars and going on a hopligan rampage. I don't think he has a rampage in him!

Look here. Let's get something straight. People sat in quiet side street bars, minding their own business and keeping themselves to themselves don't get set upon by the police. I defy anyone to demonstrate to the contrary. I've had bad times at the hands of police in UK many years ago and they may have said that I deserved it. I certainly wasn't sat twiddling my thumbs though in the time leading up to my treatment. Get real. It's time to stop this poor oppressed I'm an innocent Englishman abroad crap and face up!

I'm assuming you missed the away game at Stalybridge some years ago.

I'm sure I read Middle East on here tell you exactly that happened to him?

I'm equally sure that your attempts to demonise England fans in Marseilles is at odds with first hand evidence from those actually in France.

Another one who's out here and can only say don't believe a lot of what the press is reporting. I've never seen anything like, or so brutal in all my life. It was absolute carnage only made worse by the French police and security being absolutely useless. I've no faith in those guys if they can allow a Russian to get a flare gun into the ground.

Definitely organised and planned they were all dressed the same, can from every angle possible and had a pop at anything they could. Of course the English had a right old go back but these guys are a different breed so how the English fans are getting it in the neck as much as it appears I don't know. Just hoping the 3 or 4 still in a critical condition pull through

The Pompey fan in an induced coma has apprently been taken off the critical list but may suffer life changing injuries.

Haven't seen anything about the other fans as of yet. Sadly a northern Irish fan has died in an accident in Nice though.

A few friends of friends are out there all ex squaddies who have described it as 'very scary' and as 'Afgan like' in the sense they don't know what's round any corner or who is out to get you.

French prosecutors now saying a group of 150 russians were behind much of the violence seen in Marseille over the last few days.

Agree 100%. The Russians were intent on causing GBH to as many people as possible. The vast majority of English being normal fans drinking and chatting in the bars in the square.

I was in the bar at the time and the atmosphere (despite what you may here) was fantastic. English, locals, russian and people from all nationalities all joining in with the festivities.

The ultras came from all directions similtianiously armed to the teeth vs Jovial Football fans...only one 'winner'... the result was obviosly carnage
