Totally agree. The security around the ground was so lax. Easy if necessary to enter the ground without a valid ticket and presumably why the Russian Special Forces were able to take fireworks into the ground. Some in our group including 2 women were attacked by 200 men in black before the game. Apparently conspiracy apart they acted in a very organised military way. I didn't witness it personally however.

Russian special forces? Lol

It was meant to be tongue in cheek in response to a previous link. Detonating a loud firework though in a big crowd at this particular time ought to provoke a reaction from the French Government. All eyes should now be on the Russian supporters in Lille later in the week. France is in a self declared State of Emergency yet men dressed in black wearing masks, detonating fireworks, were allowed to charge down a street. Big question mark against French national security.

There is certainly a large section of the Russians that are military. We were talking to sections before the game and they were serving Russian soldiers. They hold us that only the military men and wealthy Russians could afford to come as no one else has any money. Most of the violence was planned and coordinated using combat style fighting. None of your drunken windmill style that we are used to.

Known English (and Welsh) hooligans had their passports confiscated and so were prevented from traveling. Known Russian hooligans, however seemingly waved through by the jolly French just like they wave through all the illegal immigrants on their way to England, leaving the nutters to attack England fans just there for a few beers and the game, real hard men.

How about taking the world cup from them as punishment? Yeah like that's going to happen

Talk about stereotype if only you were a bit more/less articulate you could get a job with the daily mail...

England fans in drinking and singing shocker!!!!

A few got attacked by the locals last night and reacted, tonight they were attacked by a few ruskie hooligans and again a mindless few reacted. The world's press were there waiting for a photo opportunity and cheap headline but all 50,000 there will be coke snorting lunatics eh? Do me a favour....

Yes there are some unsavoury types who follow us but I've been abroad with England and found that quiet bar in a side street but still been set about by locals and the police...in short you are talking bollox and don't have a clue as per usual!!!!

Are you telling us that you have been sat peaceably in a quiet side street bar and that you've been set about by the police without provocation? Or did the police react to your altercation with the locals? If you expect us to believe the former, it's you that hasn't a clue.

That explains the guy in the yellow shorts pummelling an England fan in the stand at the end of the game. His arms were like going hell for leather.

Russian men have to do a year's military service, unless they can bribe a doctor to write a sick note, as the richer families do. Therefore most Russians will have spent a year standing around pointlessly, marching around pointlessly, being bullied, learning hand-to-hand combat and living in unbelievably bad conditions. During the five years I lived there it was noticeable that violence, if it occurred, was rarely the peacock-type posturing common in Town of a weekend and usually brutal and over very quickly. I asked a Russian mate why this was and he explained that since you don't know whether your opponent is carrying a weapon or how far he will go, it's best to get things sorted ASAP. I'm not applauding any of this- it taught me to steer well clear of any trouble when living there, though I was mugged a few times.
The most disappointing aspect personally has been how Russian friends on Russian Facebook- lads I used to play football with regularly and who would cack themselves if tackled- are cheering on the Russian violence from afar. The Russian media has been feeding them anti-Western propaganda for months and here is their chance to 'prove themselves' as a nation against a Western country which has led condemnation of Russia's actions in Ukraine (correctly, in my view) and which, importantly to many young Russian football fans, is the home and originator of football violence, as glamourised by films such as 'Green Street' which are, alas, quite popular over there.

I have no idea at all if any of the Russian violence has been organised but given that the rouble has collapsed in value, I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone in Russia is funding the trips of a few hooligans who have gone to Marseille with instructions to follow.

Scary and from the footage I've seen it certainly looked very organised! A mate texted me from Marseille last night he said he spent all of 5 minutes in the port area, it was carnage from all accounts and the Russians were attacking anything English...

I have to say I know Middle East, and I believe him on this. From my experience he isn't the type to go trashing bars and going on a hopligan rampage. I don't think he has a rampage in him!

Good and bad in every nation, most of the russkis I've met on my Greek holidays have been fine, a bit boisterous when they've had a few and very very competitive, but never really sensed anything nasty about them.
The loons in France are obviously a different kettle of caviar and I doubt I've met any of them round the pool in Corfu!

He regularly rampages through the contents of his fridge and his garage based beer store though !

from a Mirror Journo on Twitter -

Fans telling Mirror how some Russian ultras were wearing gloves and had gumshields as they launched their attack on #England fans.

Sounds organised to me
