Genuine question: do the official academy sign PPP players because those they have aren't good enough, it's easier and/or cheaper than scouting talent or to fund and/or legitimise Turner and Sutcliffe's enterprise?

I'd celebrate any reassurance their 'system' was set up for reasons other than what's in it for them.

It's difficult to tell because owt on the website might be propaganda. It all depends whether it is sourced from CT or Smithy. It does appear that the quality of Academy youngsters is improving. I think the model is excellent and the direct connections with CFC are very seductive for kids and parents. Anybody still arguing that the connections are not direct has not been following the drift.

It takes incompetence of great proportions to cock up the management of the enterprise, given the connections.

Just shows his limitations to a degree - going to south coast puts him out of touch with the local availability.................

Nothing new or unusual about a manager signing players he knows, look at the players he brought here that he knew from previous.

And yes, I know Novak wasn't here when Cook was but his time here will have alerted most clubs about him, and Portsmouth have one of the biggest budgets in L1+2 so are probably being linked to most available (and some unavailable) players anyway.

Novak will go to where he thinks is the best offer for him and his family, if that's us, then great, if its not then we move on.

Wonder if Novak was a player on Cook's radar when he was here, maybe Intel provided by Mitchell?
