Depends on the club. MK Dons were in and around the play offs for a number of years but kept the nucleus of their squad together whilst adding a few year on year. They kept their squad together on being promoted and I would suggest will keep a fair proportion for next year in L1 as well.
They did lose Alli and Afobe but one of those was a freak and one was on loan.

In general do clubs that have a good season, like us getting to the play offs, and don't get promoted end up losing all their best players? Or is just us?
No not just us.But some clubs bring in decent replacements after selling the crown jewels.
