Someone pointed this out recently. Nearly 45 years old, but it put a smile on my face.

29th April 1971

Dear Sir,

We act for Mr Arkell who is Retail Credit Manager of Granada TV Rental Ltd. His attention has been drawn to an article appearing in the issue of Private Eye dated 9th April 1971 on page 4. The statements made about Mr Arkell are entirely untrue and clearly highly defamatory. We are therefore instructed to require from you immediately your proposals for dealing with the matter.

Mr Arkell's first concern is that there should be a full retraction at the earliest possible date in Private Eye and he will also want his costs paid. His attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of your reply.

Yours,

(Signed)

Goodman Derrick & Co.

------------------------------

Dear Sirs,

We acknowledge your letter of 29th April referring to Mr. J. Arkell.

We note that Mr Arkell's attitude to damages will be governed by the nature of our reply and would therefore be grateful if you would inform us what his attitude to damages would be, were he to learn that the nature of our reply is as follows: f*** off.

Yours,

Private Eye

Hardly supportive of executives at the club who welcomed Mr Bingham with open arms!

One of my "moles" has been sent information regarding GISS residential camps and their fees.

You know the phrase they must have more money than sense? It's definitely in play here.

GISS Summer Camp:
1 week - 1500 Euros
2 weeks - 3000
3 weeks - 4000
4 weeks - 4500
5 weeks - 5500
6 weeks - 6000
7 weeks - 6500
8 weeks - 7000

Quote

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE SUMMER CAMP?

Players who are offered a position at a club will need to apply for the necessary visas from outside of Spain. The offering club will assist with the necessary documentation.

Players who were not selected have further opportunities to continue a stay in either Italy or Spain. The duration of stay will be subject to Shenghan visa rules.

These opportunities will be offered at the end of the showcase and may include the following at a discounted rate of 10% off the advertised costs below and payable within 3 days of acceptance.

Transportation costs to any of these locations, is the responsibility of the participants. This discounted rate is only on offer to participants who are wanting to attend straight after the Spain Summer Camp

1 month = 2600 Euros. To be paid in advance
2 months = 2300 Euros. 4600 to be paid in advance
3 months + = 2000 Euros. 6000 to be paid in advance, with monthly payments afterwards

My "mole" was advised to send his kids for a minimum 3 month stay...

And how long were Liam Graham and Daniel Wong enrolled? Didn't a quote appear saying Liam had worked with GISS for 5 years before 'signing' with CFC?

So how much to stay at The Village?

I have a copy of their information PDFs for verification purposes

I think Graham was 5 years, Wong also long term.

You can bet Bingham quoted these charges to CT & LS and they could well have got it if players/parents were used to paying it

I have been told the UK scholars who previously resided in the village were paying between £400 to £500 per month.
