East Grinstead clothes shop raided for second time this year

Thieves stole about £4,000 of stock from Popular Girls, in London Road – and also walked off with the store's six security cameras.

The ladies' fashion outlet was targeted overnight on Sunday, November 18, seven months after thieves smashed through the rear entrance and ransacked the store.

This time, the front doors were forced open and items stolen included one-offs, such as a pair of crystallised Ugg boots.

Business owners called for an increased police presence in the town after jewellers' Major & Sons was raided in September and the latest crime has led to another plea for more help to keep the town's shops safe

East Grinstead Business Association chief executive Stuart Scholes said: "East Grinstead has problems. We have had three jewellers robbed this year and Popular Girls has been done twice.

"Shoplifting is also a problem in the town and something has to be done about it. Businesses are paying through the roof in rates and are not being protected."

County councillor John O'Brien is also calling for a change in approach from the police.

He said: "We are listening to traders and business people, and the common perception is there's just not a sufficient police presence in the town. The police should be here 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

A PCSO was flagged down by a Popular Girls employee moments after she arrived at work and noticed the theft and damage caused by the thieves ripping out the CCTV.

Detectives attended the scene at about 10.30am on the Monday and are continuing to investigate the incident.

Matthew Gurr, branch manager at Howard Cundey, the shop's landlord, said: "I think if people could see there is a police presence in the town, these criminals would think twice about doing it."

And Councillor O'Brien added: "We don't want to raise the fear of crime; it's more about working with police to match the needs of the town itself."

I'm waiting for the next instalment.

By the way Mike, with all these CCJs going around, would you share how many you've received whilst in business? They seem so easy to get.

If you're reading this, do you or anyone in your office have access to Achilles Link Up (RISQS)?

I'm proper confused now

Also, accounts department is separate from the Club - but the Development (PPP) website makes it pretty clear that it is part of the club
