Sutcliffe has been here for just over 4 years, how many players have been offered professional terms that have come through the CFC Village? How many are now part of the first team squad? If Turner had anything about him, he's only got to look at the players that he's sold and their backgrounds to realise where he should be focussing his efforts.

There was a line on Dragons' Den last night, you've not cracked Maidstone yet and you're wanting to go International!

Bonny,

What does it cost a player / his parents to be part of that Village?

That's disgusting, but not at all surprising with the names involved.

I heard members of the clubs hierarchy can't even be bothered to go and look at the kids teams, leaving other clubs to come in and take them from under our noses.

That is a real disgrace if true.
I've never heard anything like it before- what the hell is happening?

What happened to the good old fashioned youth set up? 1 set up, official to the club. Young players clean the first teamers boots and all that jazz! Didn't do the Bobby Moore's of this world any harm!

And, for over 30 years now, for top level clubs, parents of wunderkids get a house or a car bought for sonny signing on the dotted line.
Which tells us what we are up against, and should be telling the parents; if their lad is good enough, the club will be paying for all costs, not expecting him to subsidise his development.

The Youth team are paid a weekly wage same as the old YTS, the scholars however have to pay for digs and I know they take money for extra food too.

I know approx £50k was ploughed into the Espial venture.
Rumour was Sarah put the money in herself and there was a bad taste left in Hasland FC mouth for some reason as they (Clive and sarah) were in charge of the Rowsley Youth league and Hasland FC! Money problems yet again.

I doubt she put any money in; Clive is the one with the money....he is/was a surgeon, and she 'managed' an old folks home......big egos, no business acumen. Their 'supposed' philosophy at Hasland was to embrace the fun element of the game (whilst having a target of at least emulating the size/model of Chesterfield Town); every player to get a game regardless of their ability, no matter how it affected the outcome. Hasland FC was solely created due to her son, Josh, so he could get a game each week (he wasn't very good at the time; previously playing for Chesterfield Town)...then they got on the board at Rowsley......then they created Espial.

In my experience of working at Premier League clubs, the youth players/scholars are housed together (maybe 6-8 per place, depending on the size of the house) with what the clubs refer to as 'digs parents'...where they are fed and watered, etc. There certainly isn't a house or car involved. I know they scout around the world for talent, and, on the odd occasion, will risk relocation fees to bring a player and guardian to the country, in the hope that he will eventually offer financial reward to the club.

Dennis Bingham, CFC International Scouting Consultant.

Good title at least, whatever the reality actually is.

Translation allowing, it's surprising what a Google search throws up.

I got this, hit 'Translate' a few times and, well, maybe I've misunderstood the cobbled together English but it's reviving memories of fifteen years ago.

I was talking about not your average youth player, but ones that need enticing from circling clubs. I know personally of two centre halves, one from over forty years ago, one in more recent times, whose parents were paid substantial sums to ensure sonny signed on the dotted line for their club, sums sufficient to buy a decent house. It's simple economics, if one club can sign a wunderkind now for a few hundred thousand rather than £30M in a few years time, they will be tempted. Whether is legal football wise or not.

Jim White the journalist refers to a smaller sum here, but the message is still the same.

If you leave out Patrick from the search string, it produces further results.

Seems as though he had something to do with Monza reforming in the summer after being denied promotion to one of regionalised serie C divisions due to financial reasons so having to re-apply to stay in a Serie D division, club being purchased by the son of the owner of AC Milan
