Only interesting thing about it is we renewed AG contract but somehow stupidity failed to sort out the contracts of 2 of our better players when we were doing well last season. .

There is a difference between players prepared to negotiate and accept the offer negotiated and players who are not prepared to accept the best offer the club can afford..

It has been suggested that Morsy has turned down an offer which would make him the best paid CFC player ever so just how far do you think the club should go?

My view? Cook knew he would be off and thought he might be able to tempt one, or both, to join him.

My view is similar to yours.

Cook didn't try very hard to get Ryan to sign a new contract, he virtually said that in one interview when he laughed the matter off and mentioned Roberts and Ryan car sharing, and he was hoping to get him on the cheap at his new club.

Cook was thinking ahead and not to the advantage of his employers at that time.

Maybe I made my point in the wrong way. The only reason why armand is going for more than 2 of our better players is down to the contract situation. Nothing to do with ability or what the players are worth while under contract. Supporters were clearly correct about the pairing , one of the best centre midfield pairings we've ever had. A blind man could see that Ryan and Morsy have more ability than AG. if I've misunderstood your initial post and there wasn't some sort of dig in there then I apologise but if there wasn't then I'm struggling to see what your point is and what you found interesting?

Reality is, AG is more of a complete football player than both Morsy & Ryan.. Hence the transfer fee spoke about!

I have vague memories of someone on here saying if you pay a fee you get a better player, free transfers are free for a reason. RPL?
Here we go again!

That may / may not have been the case. However, there was nothing stopping the Chief Exec or the Owner for that matter, thrashing out a deal with the player & his agent, if they wanted to, for the good of CFC.

More to the point, Ryan's contract concluded at the end of June, Saunders was appointed at the end of Apr / beginning of May, sufficient time to sort something out with the player.

Ok
Blake is a better footballer yes.
He is the highest paid player at Town (estimate basic of £4k a week- making him Town's highest paid player ever).
Nnando on approx (a guess) of £750 a week.

So the question is -is Blake 5 x better player than Nnando is (I'm talking now not the Chmpionshio player he was years ago).
Well we are a couple of points above relegation zone (we won't go down of course so that's not a major issue).
Is he someone who is prepared to put in the work on and off the field- is he playing with passion for the badge - no but you guarantee Nnando did.
I'm kinda of Nnando at all and groaned like most on occasions but he is a young player with potential-hey he has been a pro footballer for a couple of years, is wanted by clubs so fair play to him.- Blake is a has-been.
Don't like him - don't like his off the field persona. I'd get rid in a minute
(Funny how everyone thinks is hilarious to rip Nnando etc to shreds but criticise Blake and everyone jumps on my back:-)

The answer is yes, and it shouldn't need explaining

The only problem with your point here CPS is that the whole argument, from the financial perspective, is based on guesswork. As you do not actually know what wage the two players are on, you could be slightly out and find out that Blake is actually only on 3x the wage of Armand in reality. I don't think even you could argue that on that basis, Blake would be far better value for money than Armand.

But the 'official line' was that Ryan wanted to move closer to home, 'dtp'.

Pompey? Closer to home?

I wonder if there was brinkmanship on both sides, but whichever was the truth CFC lost a terrific asset.

In Sam's case I see it as an investment.

Of course nothing's certain, but an extra fifty, perhaps seventy five grand to secure his services for another year could be more than recouped through L1 survival and/or a stronger bargaining position.

Not bothered where he goes personally. Grimsby or Stevenage? Not much of a choice if that's what it comes down to.

Cambridge have the money - what ever happens Armand will probably be leaving the area come end of season. Grimsby may be short term being relatively local for him and family.

And of course there is the attraction of a sea side resort.

With CP on this one. I'd sooner get rid of both and reinvest the money in the first team tbf. Ebanks Blake isn't the answer, though he has put a decent shift in, in the last few games. He's an okay lower league one striker who's eating up far too much of the wage budget for what he is and what he does and yet we can't bring in new players to strengthen the squad; well sorry he'd be one of the first I'd be looking at moving on.

Sorry my bad, it must be the wages of Ollie Banks that are preventing us from signing anymore players despite our largest EVER wage budget.
