Back to the cricket its so good to see the majority on here would walk if out.

Back in the 90s I played for Morton against Sawley when the latter had Derbyshire quickie Simon Base amongst their ranks. Using some interesting vocabulary, Base accused me of cheating when I didn't walk for a caught behind - I showed the umpire the ball mark on my forearm that proved the ball didn't touch the bat or gloves. I put the next ball back over his head and into the sightscreen. Naturally I suggested Base should retrieve his ball with my own choice anglo-saxon phraseology. I didn't see the next ball as it fizzed over my head. Guess I upset him.

think it was a golden goal as game finished as soon as he scored.
from what i remember we went 3 up & then rotherham pulled it back.
extra time, golden goal within minutes & ryan was down the tunnel before most people realised the game was over.

After he'd done a lap of honour  the funniest example of the golden goal was Reevsey at Saltergate dashing immediately down the tunnel after scoring

believe me, it's not at all principled round here, especially in the lower divisions with no umpires!

It's a shame that so many people do not walk, and more of a shame that so many players who are umpiring refuse almost point blank to give their own their own team members out

I just cannot bring myself to stand there if I know I am out, what I do believe this gives me is the right to sledge anyone who doesn't walk - there is nothing worse than people who never walk themselves getting all mardy and abusive when someone from the opposition doesn't walk

The Sunday league I played in in brum was mostly made up of all Pakistani teams, they were swines to play against and used to like dishing out abuse in their own language, which lost its impact against us as our two Pakistani players used to shout out to the middle and tell you what they'd said.
If you do what you always do, you'll get what you always get.

Simon Base always appeared from the side watching Derbyshire to be a proper cranky ar5ehole.

Sounds like a trial.

Edit: Beaten to that one!

Mark Jones escaped my memory completely too- seems we signed him from Wolves, he played nine or ten times for us then to Raith Rovers, then to the English non-league..... https://en.wikipedia...r,_born_1979%29

What a player D'Auria should have been for us, were it not for his injury.

I saw Ryan Williams playing for Scarborough at Belper a year or two ago- he did nowt but liked to shriek "Ryan's!" in a very high voice when the ball came near him. Last I heard he was player/coach at AFC Mansfield, alongside Chris Timons.

I don't think Goldsmith made many friends when he played for Cutthorpe.

He made more enemies than anyone playing cricket

To walk or not to walk - that is the question!! I always used to walk - and then I realised I was the only sucker marching off the field, then I started to realise I was being given out when I wasn't so decided that I'd stand and wait for the umpire - "some days you eat the bear some days the bear eats you!" - and all that.

As for cricketing moments - I had Danny Wilson caught at mid-off from my pie chuckers/incredible spin (delete as appropriate) and then had Len Badger cart me all over Queens Park - Jeeeez he put the ball into parts of the park I didn't know existed. Then to finish with I ran out Colin Prophett - direct hit - all in the one match!!

He was at the right club for that. They're marginally more likeable now.

I'd also forgotten about Jones but now recall he was a former team mate of Michael Owen's can't remember what team it would have been though

Chris Timons is now a firefighter working for Derbyshire fire and rescue, think he is stationed at Staveley.
Needless to say he's captain of our football team as well.

Not an ex Spireite as such, but current fourth choice goalie Myles Wright has gone on loan to Bradford PA in the Conference North. Good level for him go get some match day experience. Hopefully he won't let in 4 every week! They drew 4-4 today in his debut today
