Given the array of options to a drinking man (or woman) in Chesterfield this place must rank slightly above sitting on Stand Road park with a bottle of cider.

Snobbish or not this place is a dump. If it's a pound a pint then that is a redeeming feature.

I think its a miracle he has managed to 'sell it'

what a load of snobby nonsense

Chesters is a decent little pub, decent pint and not expensive

It is no more of a dive than many other pubs and has always been clean and tidy when I have been in, also have decent bands on most Friday nights

If enough people thought it was a good pub then it would make enough money for it not to be closing....

If Cartman bought 50% of his pints in there himself the owner would have been selling up to retire to the Bahamas.

Used to go In when they had the bands on Friday and Saturday. Always pleasant in there and beer was cheap enough.

Used to be pretty busy before matchdays so obviously had some appeal to some people.

Shame its just going to be part of the gas place.

closing due to owner retirement - he's probably got a better deal selling it to whoever he has sold it to than selling it as a pub

different than closing due to lack of trade

Shame for Whitt Moor that another pub is going!

Since moving I'd call the Beer Parlour a pub so the number on the Moor will return to number it was the when the last closed (Victoria I would think).

I do like the beer parlour although I go in fine and come out a drunken mess. Some of the ale in there is lethal :)

It's better than its previous incarnation which had no customer bog. You had to go down the road and down to the public lav on the side street.

Whit Moor has been thriving since the club moved there, most shops now taken up so its no surprise he's found a buyer, given its location.

What an ignorant statement

The owner who has been there well over 20 years has provided for a market that obviously wanted his offerings, be it cheap ale or being able to watch local bands at the weekend.

Regardless of peoples taste in beer (or wanting to appear a connoisseur) the guy provided a service which provided him with a suitable standard of living (how many other landlords can claim that length of service) and if someone makes him an offer he can't refuse for the site and retirement is pending, "dip thi bread in"

Geoff I applaud you and thanks for the good times I have had in there.

The only problem I found was the smell of the bogs as you walked in. I saw past that and had some great nights down there. Not been in though since watching Doyle score for hibs in the cup after him signing the pre contact for us
Here we go again!

I used to drink in a place as bad as that. If someone asked the landlord the direction to the bogs, he would say-"left out the bar and follow your nose"! His pub is now closed too.

I'm not quite sure that's true, here are a number of vacant shops...

not as many as there was pre-football ground though, certainly bucking local/national trend I'd say
