I watched Mansfield three times the season before last and they hardly strung two passes together all game - they banged it into the corners to gain ground and win throw ins which they launched at the big centre forrad for flick-ons. No place for a 'footballer' to thrive.

Well that's pretty much what Preston did most of the season and it's got them promoted. I'd rather watch Mansfield do it at a lower level than Preston in the Championship (or Div 1). Swindon coped with it even worse at Wembley than we did. Championship defences ought to be better equipped.

Personally, as things stand, I don't have any issues with Mansfield over this. They made a sensible decision to push for a sell-on-fee but accepted that the player ought really to be playing at a higher level. No different from us - and if Mansfield happened to have another player that looked as if he could do a job for us at a higher level, the fact that we can do business with them might help us to land another Clucas. I never used to think like that until I had a stint as a Club Secretary for a bit. It does change your attitude a bit (particularly with referees)!

1.5 million is more than I expected. There again, the lad has far more potential than Jimmy Ryan, and could make a decent championship level player just like Doyle. If any of them has Premier League promise, then I reckon it's probably Morsy. He's got all the attributes of (say) Tiote but still has youth and is more comfortable on the ball. But as a DM, 1.5 million is more than we'll get if he goes, unfortunately.
