Yes, I appreciate that, and it might be the case that there was nothing that could be done, but JR is much too good a player to be wasting his talents in Fleetwood. I'd just like to think that the club moved heaven and earth to keep him here, I suppose.
The offer of a house over here and re-location of his family for instance, might have made a difference. Difficult situation, but water under the bridge now.
I hope we don't miss the wee lad too much, but with all due respect to Sam Morsy, JR was the most vital piece of the jigsaw, and he'll certainly be missed to some extent - especially by our defenders, I guess.

Well if Fleetwood was tg best offer he had and we Ma chef it what more do you want. I think you just have to accept Ryan put family before money and football and nodody can knock him for that (or shouldn't)

Irrelevant. Chris's point is that Mansfield were pushing for a lot more for a player with obvious potential, but were held to a fee that represented a steal. Good negotiating.
The fact that Clucas fetched a few more thousand because two clubs were after him is neither here nor there - the point is that we'd have got a major amount of money from anyone, after signing him on the cheap.
It won't do Mansfield any harm either if the 15% is correct, which might irritate everybody else but I'm pleased for them because I want as many local rivals as we can get. It's all money in the bank at the end of the day, and if the alternative is Millwall I'll take Mansfailed any day.

If it pushed the price up by a further £500k I'd think it was relevant.

He would be much much better suited to a director of football role. He knows football inside out. He hasn't however the experience or qualifications to run a business, and this where he falls down. DA ought to take some of the day to day business off him, and leave him to run purely the football side of things.

I have been told that that is essentially his role -director of football. The fact is that we know his title but that doesn't tell us what his job description is.

The argument isn't about the price he went for. That was always going to be a lot. The point is the price we paid for him - a steal. So a word of praise for the negotiator?

Or the fact he tried offering the maximum we could, then walked away having failed. It was Radford who panicked and called. Either way we've got a terrific price.

Hull offered half a million pounds more than what we last rejected from Wigan.

Half a million pounds - not a few thousand, and certainly not here nor there.

That's a fair point if true.

Hello all,

My summary of this SC business is this,
Paul cox never played any kind of football of which was evident to all,
He didn't play with wingers or attacking full backs, Sam was a footballer pure & simple,
If the rumours at that time are true, I heard PC never wanted to sign SC but was advised by our then chief scout Paul Ogden to get him,
It was clear to see Sam's frustration has it was all of ours watching the drivel in which PC served up.
To be fair that hard stuff got us back in the FL, I don't blame Sam for leaving.. He is a natural footballer, in the end we got 70k for a footballer and no team like Hull or Norwich would have offered a 3rd of that to us, it' was good business from ourselves to make sure he went to a footballing side and put on a 20% sell on clause,
We all believe that with no disrespect Sam had all the credentials to play at the top (hence the clause)
To be honest it's happened a bit sooner than I'd imagined but in the end Chesterfield get 1.3 million pounds Mansfield will get 260k + the initial 70k So all in total we got 340k .. Great local business by both.
Good luck to you all next season.

I think you will find your sell on is 15%.

Also, this will be 15% of the Profit ie £1.23 million which is £184500 which will be paid to you in proportion to the instalments as agreed to be paid to us.

Then, of this £184500 you will have to pay the Liquidators of Hereford United 20% (£36900) in respect of their sell on clause to leave £147600.

So, by my calculations you will receive a total of £203600 (£70k less 20% = £56k + £147600) - not to be sneezed at but quite a bit short of your £340k.

Why stupid ? We all know what he means by 'footballer'. I watched Mansfield three times the season before last and they hardly strung two passes together all game - they banged it into the corners to gain ground and win throw ins which they launched at the big centre forrad for flick-ons. No place for a 'footballer' to thrive.

Explain it then

(And it came from a Mansfield fan- of course it was stupid)

It's a perfectably reasonable turn of phrase. What issue do you have with it?

It's just a silly thing to say- certainly not quantifiable.

Plenty of things aren't 'quantifiable' and it doesn't make them any less valid. Football is not a science.

Natural footballer is just a daft statement.
(As opposed to the thousands of other boys who play, get selected in an Academy, gain their scholar, gain their pro and make a first team squad, then make their pro). What makes a natural footballer out of any of them? They've all put in 10,000 + hours on the training ground and have received top coaching.
I guess they are all natural footballers when compared to the 100,000's who don't even get to Academy football......

Lionel Messi is a natural footballer

Perfectly valid statement, you cannot learn some of the stuff he can do, it comes naturally to him
