The club was losing money. A lot of money. The total wage bill for the business is around £4,000,000. The club are trying to address the losses. Its all there in last years accounts, wages, turnover losses etc.

SEB will have taken up Roberts wage.So as we stand your probably looking at a wage to replace Ryan.

Is it?

Dead right im gutted banks had a chequered start to his career playing out of position and then did well but his form tapered off and he was out of form when he got injured at wembley, since then he has done nothing.

As for Gardner he looks a world beater 2 minutes out of 90 but he plays with the choke out and makes bad decisions, he tries to do everything at a million miles an hour, in his head im convinced he thinks he is ronaldo, problem is ronaldo has a brain.

They never are when they leave.

The debate was whether their signing was good or bad business by Mitch.

You can't hide the fact that Robbo was available but nobody at the top of L1 was prepared to speculate - just like Jimmy.

I expect us to be dipping into the loan market to replace anyone who is to leave from here on out. Likely to be closer to the start of the season as lots of the youngsters all get chances with their parent clubs during pre season.

Clearly balancing the budget is a key factor in how we move in the transfer market but I think DS does need to wait until there is clarity on what is happening with Tendayi and Clucas. We have increased the size of the squad with some younger players but I suspect this is more to develop them through the reserves rather than as real first team options for this season. The core squad is unlikely to be larger in numbers so getting the balance right will be critical. This will mean having some players who are effective in a couple of positions. Clucas is a clear example here. He can play up front, midfield and left full back therefore giving cover to Jones and flexibility elsewhere. If he goes we would need to cover left back as well as the attacking role. Sign one player or two? Tendayi would also be hard to replace in the squad. I don't know what DS has in mind for him this season but clearly last season we had to play Drew out of position to have both of them in the team. I can't see that being the preferred option this season and that might mean that either Drew or Tendayi are seen as the replacement for Ryan if they are both to be in the team, which I think they must be. I suspect both could do a really good job there. If that's the case then we have the Ryan replacement and what we might need is a player who could cover right back but offer something else. Clearly Drew being injured has not allowed this be part of any pre season work.
We do need a player to take on the creative role Roberts offered but I didn't see too many of them playing against us last season so might not be so easy to recruit. SEB should be a good signing if he plays anywhere near his potential but signing a forward was not a complicated decision.
The difficulty of course is that time is against us. Any deals with Clucas and Tendayi need to be done quickly or we need to make it clear to other clubs they will not be going in this window. How easy that is in practice I don't know given that the players seem to have the power. What is clear is that we now need to make it clear to bidders that we won't entertain incremental bids - either put in a serious final bid or pull out. Be an interesting test of how serious we are about not needing to sell if we turn down significant money but below our valuation.

It really is quite simple.

We need a defensive midfielder to replace Ryan. No question about it, Morsy can't do the job all by himself and we've no cover should he be injured. So why do we need to wait to see what happens elsewhere?

We need a creative replacement for Roberts. Yeah O'Shea can sorta do that job, but again we're short of cover. So why do we need to see what happens elsewhere?

Darikwa's going (apparently we couldn't stand in the way of Doyle and Cook - who were both under long-term contracts - so how can we suddenly demand that a want-away player stays?), so Saunders should be lining up a replacement.

Clucas? Well the same applies - hasn't Saunders a few targets in mind if needed? Surely any manager worth his salt should have.

Nah, all this reactive rather than proactive stuff is exactly the kind of excuse-making I predicted several weeks ago.

And here was me thinking the debate started when you claimed that Mitch "is one of the best" and Bonnyman enquiring as to why is he with us in that case

Although it appears Mitch has done his job well and probably deserves his pay rise (and I can't see where Bonnyman has said otherwise), your claim is rather far fetched

Spot on; well almost as imo don't need so much a defensive midfielder to replace Ryan, but one that can link midfield to attact and get up and down. We have Hird that can do the defensive stuff in the middle if need be. Our attacking options are poor and we really do need to bolster these.

Has Saunders got targets lined up? By his own admission apparently not

He has had more than enough time to get a replacement in for Ryan

Roberts, well maybe a direct replacement is not on the cards if and only if SEB has taken the majority of his wages

Inexcusable if he hasn't drawn up contingency plans in the event of Darikwa, Clucas and Morsey leaving.

I can't believe any credible management tean doesn't have a fluid list of potential recruits for multiple positions.

48 starts, 1 sub appearance & 12 goals.

A player who improved massively in a short space of time with us.

I'm more disappointed at his impending departure than that of Darikwa, Ryan and Roberts together personally.

Thanks for your efforts Sam.

We have already turned down 3 bids from Wigan in excess if that....no pressure to sell as on 2 year deal but £1 million and he will go!

I have mentioned before, reading made a bid of £500k in May. I was with certain players at the time it happened

Poor Samy's going to be left all alone and with the work of at least two men.

Quite simply we will need five new, match ready first team players after this latest clear out. Not we could do with them, actually NEED them.

A right back, a central midfielder, a striker and a wide man on each side.

Otherwise that 15/2 on our relegation will be being filled in pretty sharpish.

Is it two weeks until the season?

Our starting XI v Barnsley could be erm, 'interesting'.
