All this presupposes that some of the 'saved' money goes towards strengthening the squad. I haven't got a clue what the financial situation at the club is, and I see very little evidence that much is being invested in players. So far we've brought in SEB and a few kids, and given Tommy a new contract. Now I'm not advocating panic, BUT our first League game is TWO WEEKS from tomorrow!
When the club posts a £1,000,000 loss in a championship/wembley final season, and signs a couple of kids in close season (Onovwigun/Gboly) even David Blunkett can see what the financial situation is.
Wages increased with bonus on promotion, so the departure of Richards covered that, and Smith wages = Dan Jones. So the finances although healthier (higher crowds and 4th rnd FA cup, Doyle Cooper) are still not good on a day to day basis from last season.
Blimey, even Tooley warned us last season was the high water mark and to make the most of it. Anyone thinking that things are going to continue as they had for the last 2 seasons are going to be in for a surprise. The club cannot continue to run huge 6 figure losses season upon season, and there is no guarantee we will continue to have players good enough to command fees to cover these losses.
