Thought we'd been doing that since the end of 2013-14. 2*750k player sales, 7k average attendance, compo for the manager, the biggest wage earner off the books for a fee, and we're still struggling?

Turner said early last season we are trading in the black. Well, we sold Cooper and Doyle for approx £1.6 million. Received around £80k for Roberts. Had a 4th round cup run and received compo for Cook. We spent £100k on signing Harrison and Clucas. Anything less than. £1.5million profit and it's clear the club isn't trading in the black.
A new hope.

The transfer fees will be instalments so the profit will be over a set period

I think this has been done to death.....transfer fees are accredited in FULL to the year accounts they occurred in regardless of payment spreading...IE if we agree £1 million for a player in the 2014 yr accounts then that is the yr it is accounted to regardless of the instalment package!

You accounts should know that making a profit doesn't necessarily mean we are cash rich. With instalments ec coming in the future we may have to be careful about down payments. Still can't believe the comments on here about the state of finances at the club, most of which must be off football manager. Even if the club is making a profit on paper it doesnt mean the cash flow is good.
Most threads on here descend into critiscm of finances, players or each other, I wouldn't think any of the posters really know what's happening.

I didn't say "unknown", 'SS', I said 'unnamed'.

Well, by me on here, anyway, as requested by the people passing on the rumour (which, by the way, is all it is).

And the cricket?

Pre-game beers and dinner in The Boythorpe, more beers amidst like-minded company in the Park, Derbyshire comfortably beat 'Yarksher' then goods friends and I saw the afternoon out putting the World to rights - and helping the bar staff empty the last barrel - in front of the Pavilion.

So how do you think it was, my friend...

"As yet unnamed" we're your words, which suggests they've not been named yet, not that you knew but weren't letting on, apologies if I misunderstood.

Anyhow, who it is is irrelevant to my point, how do you get pre warning of an impending bid? Surely if a club says "we intend to bid £500k for your player next week" then surely that is, in effect, a bid in itself?

The uncharacteristic cautiousness of your post suggest either your info is from a different source to normal and they are not certain, or maybe your are unsure if your sources reliability so are covering yourself. Either way, you are never normally as careful or crpytic nor usually far off the truth either.

And I have absolutely no interest in cricket, so wasn't there, sorry!

Can you point out where anyone on here, especially accountants, have said profit equals cash?

Re your last sentence...I would hazard a guess we've been losing money hand over fist, and even accounting for player sales still are!

Not really, what if the 'as yet unnamed' club are expecting one of their players to leave for a fee? And the bid for Clucas is dependent on that! They can still prepare a bid with the knowledge of Chesterfield without making an official one!

Indeed, but they have agreed a fee for one of their forwards and the deal is expected to go through this week end, for £500k
