About 10 minutes from the end I spoke to one of the police officers who was one of a small group who had been at the back of the away section and had been called forward. I said I wanted to applaud our players at the end of a hard season and could he please ensure there was no pitch invasion.
The officer replied that there had been some discussion about this before the match and would pass on my request.
Anyone who was there saw what subsequently happened. Away fans were double guarded and home fans given free passage leading to mayhem. The weak referee allowed around 10 seconds of time over the 4 minutes announced when Beckford alone was treated for over a minute. This was because it was a corner to us and it would have been impossible to take it. D'Urso then ran from the field leaving the players (his responsibility) to take what was coming. PNE, referee and Police are all at fault in not foreseeing the obvious threat to player safety, not least the home ones with a big game to come. At least Town fans were safe behind our cordon.

(On another topic good luck to PC and thanks but the timing of his 'acceptance' is disappointing and shows a lack of respect to all of us and the Club.)

I said to one of the police stood in front of the away end 'you seriously don't expect our lot to cause any trouble do you ?, the reply was it was for our own protection to stop Preston fans getting in amongst us . Says it all about their fans really , at a time they should be celebrating there was a section more interested in causing trouble .

And it doesn't show then in a very good light

I think that entire club has issues

Absolutely correct! One or two say that what happened on the pitch in both legs justifies the attack on Ian Evatt. Unbelievable!

The ref has to take some of the blame by not stopping the game when the thousand or so we're on the touch Line! The announcer gave warnings that weren't heeded. Not to abandon the game but to halt it to get some order restored! Even if the game had only seconds left to play!

Had to laugh at the comment by LR in today's paper
"To lay hands on people is a disgrace"
When he was allegedly involved in some sort of fracas in a lift (according to another thread on here)!
And our player of the season has a jail sentence for assault!

Blimey!

Wow!!

Can't believe some of the comments on here.

Had this been the other way round and you'd soundly beaten us, are you telling me you wouldn't have invaded the pitch?

Course you would!

As for what happened to Evatt, not good but that's just 2 or 3 clowns out of thousands on the pitch.

Got to say some of the comments about Garner getting hurt aren't great!!

He just gives as good as he gets!

PNE fan here....PNE as a club have no more issues than every club. We have good, bad and damn right stupid fans. Please do not tar us all with the same brush. Even Chesterfield will have the insane amongst it's supporters. Lets face it, anyone running onto a pitch to pick a fight with a player has a screw lose, and believe me I have yet to bump into a Preston fan who is happy with what happened afterwards. Most of the fans were on there to celebrate. However, the real issue isn't yesterday, its the fact that over the past year or so, pitch invasions have once again become the norm. That needs to be stamped out again and quickly. There is no time when fans should be on the pitch. It would actually have been better for all fans to stay in the stands and the players to do a lap of honour. Maybe one day. Regarding Evatt and Gardner. Firstly Evatt is known for being bad tempered. He hurled abuse at the home fabs during the match - That does not excuse the slap he got though which definitely happened. Also he made no secret of the fact he wanted to beat PNE on behalf of Blackpool fans on twitter leading up to the match. Again no excuse, but wy do all these high profile individuals insist on stirring things up on social media? Gardner has been a pain in defenders backsides all season. He does go down easily, but defenders also go to extreme lenghts to wind him up and kick him to high heaven. Thats why other league 1 players have voted him the player of the year. So Gardner is no saint, but neither is Evatt. In fact sledging, kicking, etc is all part of the modern game. I dont like it, not many do, but its there so why single Gardner out other than because you lost? The team with the quality won, the team who played the most football lost. That is what makes football so interesting. I hope you build on this season into next.

I agree mate during our 2010/11 Championship season during a 3-2 home loss to Bury, we had a mini pitch invasion and one of our fans smacked the Bury keeper...every club has them!

If your going to try and justify your players and supporters behaviour I would stick to your own board. Most on here have seen your lot over the two games

I'm amazed that you are appearing to compare the two incidents no matter how bad ours was

They are also serial offenders at this game

I don't recall any opposition players ever being struck at Deepdale.

And for the record, judging from the pics I've seen it seems Evatt was slapped not punched as some on here are saying, not that it makes it any better!

I'm comparing them because the two incidents are similar, ive no truck with Preston and couldn't care less about them, but what the poster says has a ring of truth to it.

He is punched from behind, it's as clear as day on the video.

I honestly don't know what is wrong with your fans but there's definitely something.

I very much doubt we would have gone on the pitch, as we've had warnings about this from past episodes, and in two L2 championship wins we never did. Garner was booked for an elbow in the first real coming together of the pair. Evatt got one back and got booked himself which set the tone for their encounter! Tbh I expected one or the other or both to get sent off.
One other thing I do agree with it the thing about pitch invasions. All fans should be able to benefit with celebrations from the terraces/stands and in the wake of what happened at Deepdale that may well happen.

Think you need to have a think back to our last L2 championship win mate!
