Must Be A Done Deal.....

It's all really unhelpful, and I'm cross but I dont really know where to channel my frustration as it all feels a little cloudy. I'd say again that ultimately I'd leave it to DA and CT. if they feel the players and staff are immune to it, then business as usual.
I suspect I know the response this will get, but the Chief Exec now needs to earn his corn, ear to the ground, gauge the mood at the club, talk informally to coaches and club stalwarts. Is the ship still on course playing-wise because at the moment that's the only thing that matters.

Agree the fact he's under contract should mean we can refuse permission and hold him to the contract, but the inclusion of the clause reflects the reality that in practice this doesn't work. With you all the way on the ambition front if he's said it, happy to take the improved contract, so I suspect could be regretting signing if the amount puts potential suitors off, he can't have it both ways

If its £150k it shouldn't be an obstacle for bigger clubs

If DC is owt like me, he's getting urined off by the whole bludddy episode - all brought on by PC and his agent. Offer him a significant rise reflecting his achievement and give him a deadline. If that fails a saving of £120k a year minus what extra we have to pay LR plus the buyout payment will do nicely.

FWIW I think we will now not hear anything until at least 2 weeks tomorrow.
Buy out clause or compensation clause? There is a big difference! Buy out means they offer us whatever it is and he's off and nothing we can do about it, compensation clause and it means he cant go anywhere unless we agree to let him go and the other club have to pay the figure. I've seen both mentioned so not 100% sure how its going to work.

Turner used the words buy out, but he may have meant compensation, Biggs later tweeted "tied Cook to a contract that'd demand around £250k compo"

I'd guess that is 2 years current salary.

Cook, whose previous deal was due to expire in 2016, is now tied to the club until the summer of 2017, together with his assistant, Leam Richardson.
Cook joined the Spireites in October 2012 and has overseen the club's rise from League 2 as champions in 2013/14 and their stabilisation in League 1 during the current campaign.
The contract extension comes in the wake of the January transfer window, which saw the Spireites bring in five new players and sell striker Eoin Doyle to Championship side Cardiff City for a seven-figure fee.
Cook is delighted to commit his future to the club given the volatile nature of football management.
"Along with the rest of the coaching staff, I was brought in to do a job and in football it's always a difficult job in an ever-changing world.
"I've been here now for two years and four months and I think I'm in the top 20 longest-serving managers, which is quite amazing.
"I'd just like to thank the chairman, Chris [Turner], the board of directors and all the supporters for all the faith they've shown in me."
The manager described his feelings for the club and the importance of displaying togetherness and loyalty.
"We feel we have a very strong unity here together as a club," said Cook. "Any manager will be clamouring for time, but in football today we don't get that.
"The club is very important to us all. Loyalty in football now is a very hard thing to come across and as a manager or a player I think you need to show that."
Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner emphasised the need to continue the club's forward momentum, and feels strongly that Cook and his staff are the right people to ensure that happens.

Turner said: "It's important that we keep this project going forwards. After the developments of the transfer window, where we brought in five new players and Eoin [Doyle] left the club, we're showing that everything's positive at the club.
"In the two and a half years that Paul's been here, the progress has been there for all to see. Out on the field of play we're fifth in League 1, challenging for a play-off spot and we've just sold our first million pound Chesterfield player.
"For the first time in a long time there's a very positive and bright looking future in front of us."

I'd be surprised if its a buy out in that a club gives us whatever the figure is and we have no say at all. I suspect its a case of we still have to give permission and we're entitled to whatever the figure is.

I agree, but he'd still go because his playing budget is insufficient for his ambitions.
I was thinking about this coming to work, if I were him I'd want the budget for three or four quality additions on top of Ryan staying. That's on the basis we stay down.
We will want a left back, a centre half, at least one striker and at least one wide player who will start week in, week out.
Cook already knows, I fear, that the funds to do this will not be forthcoming.

Whether or not Ryan stays I think we need a taller, stronger, central midfield player before a wide player. I agree defensively we need a new left back and a tall left-sided centre back plus a striker.
If Talbot stays both Tendayi and Drew can play wide midfield and, I have said previously that, I believe, Tendayi is a good option for a centre midfield role as well.
The next few weeks are going to be very interesting as my above thoughts are only based on us remaining a league one outfit.
If we make it to the Championship we will need more and will have to spend the extra budget very wisely.

It's on the basis that we stay down but we want to be top 6 favourites, ie, kick on again. We don't need 3 or 4 more players to stay where we are as an established L1 team.

If you are right that's 250k to pay us plus a pay rise for him, say a minimum salary of 3k a week for 2 years, would make it £550k minimum. I reckon he will be on £3k a week here, by his own admission he is "very well paid". They might be offering £4k a week which would push the minimum to £650k. Or even £5k if that's what Tubby gets, making it £750k.

Tendayi central midfield?...you are supposed to keep the ball in that area he would be like a fish out of water.
