I don't think there's any doubts about him from a football point of view.

On the other hand I think there's reason to think there are concerns about the rest of it.

I have been wondering for a while why Cook hasn't been linked with bigger jobs. His achievement here has been phenomenal, but football is a bit of a village, so if there are other issues at play, that may be my answer.

It was a done deal when phil t obviously broke the news in a round about way a few days ago, it was B****Y obvious....bookies don't go 1/3 on or whatever without any knowledge of these things. They don't get beat due to the contacts they have. People need to realise it's a done deal but nothing has been said. It will just be about finalising the compensation package and finishing the season.

Hopefully I'm totally wrong but I very very much doubt it.

Phil T told us he wasn't going.

Answer me this....
How stupid would PC look if he signed for Portsmouth and then we got promoted?. IF he does it, the only possible conclusion is that it's the wages not the player budget that attracts him.
The answer to the problem is to give PC top L1 wages, double his current, if necessary. He deserves it and he will recoup the investment.

If you mean his personal salary, would they have to do the same for LR?

There are no indications that his own remuneration is an issue. I think you are over-simplifying it on this occasion.

Maybe but if he is offered x amount more by Portsmouth it might be an issue

Makes you wonder if he'd just be hanging around for the bonus if we get promoted though

I suspect he is already on top L1 wages. The Pompey press quoted his current salary as 350k although I've no idea where they got that figure from. Doubling it would be stupid, he is well enough paid. Any increase for him would inevitably come off the playing budget and that is far more of an issue.

You are absolutely right - deal is done, let's just hope PC leaves us with an amazing legacy.

I'm sure he's well paid but that sounds way OTT to me.

If a deal is already done, and not sure how yet with us refusing permission for them to speak to him, then even if we go up his legacy here will be extremely damaged, in my eyes anyway.

The Portsmouth news quoted his salary as circa £150k.

When you look at the list of managers odds on the Portsmouth job you can see why Cooks favourite, apart from Keith Hill there's some right crap other managers after the job.

That would be more like it. Well paid, yes, but not lavishly.

Heard the same figure, I'd guess at £125k given the quoted £250k buy out clause as his contract has 2 years to run

I know, it would leave a bitter-sweet taste in the mouth but I would rather him leave having accomplished his task rather than job half done.

I'd read somewhere it would cost us between £150k & £250k to get him here plus wages.

1 David Connolly gets you 1 Paul Cook with change it seems. I know who I'd rather have.

Even if he does join us I can't see him starting full time before your season is over. Perhaps it is a done deal and his cryptic answers are because he knows he is coming to us but still has a job to do with you and doesn't want to rub Pompey fans up the wrong way.

My other theory is that he is playing the two clubs off each other to get the best deal he can for Paul Cook and that might not be in Derbyshire or Portsea Island.
