He understands Cook is at least interested in the job, no more no less at this time.
Pompeys playing budget at the start of this season was about £2 million, but that didn't include the £5300 / week contract Matt Tubbs signed in January (Tubbs, ironically, is overweight!)
Wallace has just signed a contract at around £4000 / week.
Portsmouth play dreadful football currently.
Pompey are working hard to set up a good structure at the club, one that could stay in place whoever the manager was, he's not sure they would want a manager to bring his own backroom team with him.
He says off the field they are a complete shambles, he gets paid at irregular intervals despite an agreement being in place, he has been underpaid all season up to a couple of weeks ago and he now thinks they have overpaid him by £300!
I asked him about their debt, was it paid off? Or did they have debt written off? He said he 'understands' their entire debt was paid off with parachute payments, but that is only fan / media talk, he has never been told that by anyone from within the club, in fact he says on the couple of occasions he has asked their chairman about the debt he has fobbed him off and said 'you'll have to ask the finance director about that'.
Long and short of it he said he couldnt make his mind up whether they were a sleeping giant just waiting to rise from the ashes, or a club still very much in disarray that is managing to put a very brave face on things.
Only what I have been told by a bloke I trust who has no reason to lie to me.

I would have said I hope they consolidate and build, but now..............I hope they are in disarray, that half way through the season they get a few unpaid notices through the door that they cant pay, go back into administration and face a 10 point deduction. unpaid players leave in January without a fee being received and they get relegated.
Then the conference refuse to admit them for financial irregularities and they, and Fratton park go the same way as Third Lanark and Cathkin Park.

Even the football league show questioned the timing of the approach, saying couldn't it have waited 2 weeks?

Have to say I know and trust FD's take on things - but maybe this should be passed on to Paul Cook

For me a move for Cook will inevitably happen, we all know that Dave Allen won't back him with the necessary funds and so he will go. However, Pompey would, in my opinion, be a step back three years - because it would take him at least that long to get them to where we are now - probably longer. I don't see Pompey as a sleeping giant any more - they are a has been outfit - sorry but at this moment thats the truth of it. When some rich dude takes them over and injects flipping great wodges of cash, then they may rise again, although if they are paying tubbs that much they may never rise ever - far too big to get off the ground!

Portsmouth, sleeping giants?
Sleeping giants don't spend decades in the second tier or below. I don't know how they ever got this title, sizable club yes, giants no

My big worry is that the approach from Pompey might spark one of our illustrious stripey neighbours into action.

We all know that your Uncle Percy's next door neighbour has an elderly Aunt who is a Pompey tea-lady but please go away and let her get on with her job.
Edit: by the way, she does the job voluntarily now because the Club can no longer afford to pay her, and that's a fact!
