In the late sixties John showed true dedication to the Spireites by walking to the home games from his home in Woodthorpe at the bottom of Mastin Moor hill.

Various people (several of whom I suspect are members of this board) joined John on the walk.

By the time I joined the Spireite Express, (as it became known) in Brimington there were often about a dozen of us.

Good times

Glad to hear you're on the mend John

Remember that......at the time used to wonder why they did it...lol......Service 4 for me from Norbriggs bus stop bottom of Mastin Moor ....saved my paper round money for my bus fair and match...got off at the old bus station and ran up through town to Saltergate....

Absolutely.........had the pleasure of my attendance during this period of mid to end of the sixties....sounds like there are a few on here who I will know by name....time passes and dims the memory somewhat of putting names to faces but I had good times there.

I was there from 86-93, i know a couple on here who were there at the same time.

It looks like a different school when i drive past it now on the way into Town for home matches.

Had the privilege of being taught by some cracking teachers like Mr Bishop, Dave Clark and Geoff Weir (and some not so good ones!). I heard Mr Bishop had died not so long ago.

Just to say thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. Thanks too for all the kind comments.

Carol and I are getting set for the trip to the Coventry game today (Marlon the greyhound is servicing the car as I write) and meeting up with Chris (another graduate of the Netherthorpe school of droll humour) who is travelling down from exile in Guisborough. These days he goes under the name of North East Exile.

Good to hear from old school friends and people from where I used to live in the Woodthorpe - Mastin Moor - Norbriggs area. I grew up originally in Inkersall and still have fond memories of the 12 years I spent there. I see Jim Binns every now and again at matches, also from Netherthorpe and now living near me in the Bingley area north of Bradford. Happy to meet up anytime on a match day if folks are around.

Here's to a good game and three points today. COYB!!!

All the best - John
