Windies have gone from been a heavy one day force to a shambles in a relatively short period of time. Gayle not firing in the top order hasn't helped, neither has them missing Narine and Benn (1 and 2 in world odi bowling rankings not so long back?)

Benn is in the squad but not playing. Narine a different situation having had his action questioned. Dont forget no Dwayne Bravo or Keiron Pollard either due to politics and the captaincy dropped on some young lad.

That said they are a better T20 than 50 over ODI team.

Yeah, it's been the case for a while that a lot of their players just don't seem to have the restraint to play the longer forms of the game. Holder hasn't done a bad job though given the circumstances, seems to have a healthy run rate and taking some wickets. South Africa look like they are hitting form just at the right time as well, Miller has hit form in the middle order so they don't rely on Amla as much as they have done. And DV seems on a one man mission to end up sending a cricket ball into space when he plays WI.

Just the old age issue of whether they can actually win when it matters....lots of history of messing up at the wrong time. Still think it'll be Australia or New Zealand.

Yeah I tend to agree. Be interesting to see how they match up in the group stage today. I just get the feeling that the Aussie's have a bit too much for them and that it would take a hefty slice of good fortune for NZ to get past them.

NZ on home soil will be hard to beat...if McCullum fires!

Southee and Boult are having blinders in this tournament so far. They keep this up and their aren't many batting lineups that will be able to withstand them.

Boult is a very good bowler, Southee is when on form which he is currently. Southee handy with the bat, not today mind, as well. Gives it a good whack.

A big boost for them is Vettori staying fit and doing well.

What can you say about that? Went to bed thinking we could defend that, batted well for a change apart from those middle overs when Dilshan and Perera got a strangle on us. Should probably have got to 350 from where we were.

As for Sri Lanka, well played to them. Sangakkara has scored for fun against us this past year, we just can't seem to stop him settling in and scoring big. And Thirimanne made use of his reprieve when dropped. That'll give him a lot of confidence.

Decider against Bangladesh now. Time for Hales to come in and Ballance to make way. Would bring Bopara back too, might be a chance to play him into some form against Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

At one stage in the middle overs I thought I was watching a test match.

That arguably was the worst defeat so far.

Criticism for the lacklustre batting in the middle of the innings but that bowling lineup is desperate. If Finn wash't so rubbish, Broad should be dropped. Both them are supposed to be in the team for their aggressive fast bowling and they are so pedestrian.

As for our captain he looks every bit as hapless as Cook. Even though he was in as bad form as Cook when appointed he is supposed to be inventive in his captaincy. Well he wasn't, I suppose it serves to demonstrates that a captain is only as good as what he's got to work with.

Looking forward to what Willis has to say about it on the Verdict

Looks like the Pietersen debate is simmering back to the boil now as well. The incoming ECB chairman saying there is a possible way back for him. We're never going to hear the end of it are we, especially if we lose one of our next 2 in the world cup.

Sick and tired of Pietersen

Apparently he loves all the current squad and thinks they are all really talented

That'll be the incoming chairman put forward by Derbyshire CCC!

Looking at the latest this morning its a case of if he was back in County Cricket scoring a load of runs then they would consider it...which is basically what i said he should have done after the whole thing kicked off instead of being a moaning prat and getting Piers Morgan to fight he corner for him! At the end of the day he's done next to nowt since he was booted out aside from a couple of knocks in the Aussie hit and giggle cricket against some slightly better than club cricketers!

Away from the world cup...this may be a decent free day of cricket on Queens Park....

Queen’s Park, Chesterfield, will once again be in the media spotlight when international cricket returns to the town in an Ashes summer when England Under-19s face Australia Under-19s in the second of five One-Day internationals in August.

The match is to be played on Friday 14 August and is a chance for supporters to watch the England and Australia stars of the future, including a potential appearance from Derbyshire fast-bowler Will Davis who was recently selected for the Under-19s tour of Australia.

The match will bring a second helping of high quality action for the Chesterfield public following Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s annual Festival of Cricket, in association with Chesterfield Borough Council. This will be held in July and includes LV= County Championship action against Glamorgan and NatWest T20 Blast fixtures versus Northamptonshire Steelbacks and Yorkshire Vikings.

Chesterfield Cricket Club Chairman Mike Taylor said: “We are looking forward to another great summer of cricket here in Queen’s Park.
“In July, we will host Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s Festival of Cricket and it’s great that we’ll bring the curtain down with an Ashes battle between the best young players in England and Australia.

“Hosting both these high profile events is great news for the town and also great news for Chesterfield Cricket Club. Watching some of the best players around always inspires our youngsters at the Club and local schools and these big matches provide us with opportunities for us to raise funds which help us continue to run a very successful league cricket club.

“We’re proud to host Derbyshire‘s Festival of Cricket and hope the Festival will continue for many years. It’s been great to host additional matches in recent summers like the England Women, Yorkshire versus the Unicorns and now the England and Australia Under-19s.

“It’s well documented that Sachin Tendulkar called our ground the most beautiful he’s ever played on. Hopefully we’ll send some English and Australian stars of the future away with a similar view.”

Entry for the match is free of charge beginning at 10.30am.

As disappointing as that was, what a game. On edge to the very end. Fair play to Bangladesh they look like they wanted it a lot more than us.

Get us back to Test cricket, at least we can occasionally win a game of that.

I think the big issue is how Moores is trying to coach them....all about stats, data etc when they should be more free to play as the game pans out. I dont think the players if playing well are that bad and were more than capable of winning games like that. Didnt help that we played Aus and NZ first so were on the back foot a bit and a couple of strange decisions to play Ballance but not Tredwell etc.

How our innings panned out today was pretty much why we have issues...decent start, sloppy from Ali to run himself out then got bogged down in the middle v spin leads to a mini collapse then we rebuild only to come up short.

There will be the expected calls for wholesale playing changes, KP back etc but to be honest i dont know who we have that are better especially bowling wise that hasnt been tried and as for KP when he got dropped, whether rightly or wrongly, he didnt do much to make himself pickable again...all he did was whine.

absolute joke

Moores is an idiot, Whitaker is a posh gimp with no idea

Bangladesh and Afghanistan have bowlers quicker than ours

Broad - should never play international cricket again, he is useless (Anderson not much better mind)

No dynamism in the batting when all other nations (even associates) realise you have to try and biff it these days

Pathetic
