We got as far as Tideswell Crossroads - turned back hoping to use M1/M62 got as far as the Highwayman and spent an enjoyable evening/night there.Full marks to the staff for helping people out who were stranded.
Only downside was a Grimsby fan - right two hat - surprised no one dropped him !

What time did you leave Town, i was in the same direction and no such problems, didn't even see a hint of snow, just drunk it down with rain

parked on Council Site behind the chippy - Son and friend in east stand - had to wait for them so 17.25 before we got away then behind a 20 mph merchant through Brampton ! Sleet on windscreen in Baslow then snow started at Stoney Middleton then few mins later roads were treacherous.Major jam on hill beyond Tideswell turn so turned back. Then total congestion heading towards town at The Highwayman so just called it a day.Got reports of gridlock in Town but also someone said no snow at Glossop !Some people left the Highwayman at around 10.30 and headed towards town ok - but we had a room by then !

I was lucky yesterday, left the match after full time and got back into Nottingham at 6pm, just as it was settling.

Returned today for a Christmas family do this late morning (in Brim) and was like a war zone - abandoned cars all over.

90 mins both ways today, but I've had it easy !! - Best of wishes to all Spireites who have have had to endure !

Festve Greetings, Doctor Blue, NG9.
When I say run, run!

Why would a hotel on a busy motorway junction be shut Boxing Day night?

Tried to get back to chester this evening but the main road was closed as a lorry had Jack knifed across both lanes. Tried a couple of other routes but they were very treacherous and the baby was getting cranky so sacked it off and came back to the motherland for another night at the rents.

I might be wrong but I imagine a decent proportion of their trade will be business travellers of which there would be very few on that day.
