Hoofball! As I've said the passing game is what it all about!
When you've had 40yrs mostly watching relentless 'long passes' down the channels to our big centre forward at the time ie, Ernie, Phil walker, craig Davis ect, watching it trickle out of play, it's trully boring The last 2yrs at the proact have been sublime! No to the snow covered ball!
Don't get me wrong a regular deliverer who puts it on the spot time and again is great but there are very few David Beckhams around ATM!!
Call me an old cynic, but every Manager we've ever had has claimed to want to play passing football on the ground, and none of them have got anywhere near it, though PC has got closer than most. Did you ever hear a Managerial interview which said we were going to keep lumping it up to that big bloke in the no. 9 shirt?
The fact is that it's extremely difficult to work the ball forward in a series of short passes, and it gets progressively more difficult the further up the field the ball goes. Much easier to avoid the problems associated with losing the ball in midfield, and cut out the middle men.
We all want what you want, but even in the Premiership they struggle with the idea. Fair play to Cookie then for setting his teams up to play the right way, but sometimes when teams are set up to counter the stuff on the ground you have to go long just to get within smelling distance of the opposition goal.
So welcome back Armand, but I hope you don't become the excuse for long ball stuff all the time.
