Why would West Yorkshire have anything to do with it?

Huddersfield and Leeds are also Barnsley's local rivals to one degree or another.

They aren't even dingles to us, they are nothing more than a local team who we have no real rivalry with

I still see them as local rivals from back in the Cox day. Shame our paths havent crossed for many years. Dingles is a good nickname.

They call them Deedahs too so it was a pretty lame effort.

Not technically correct as we were in the same division as themnot that long ago. Can't be bothered to look it up but within the last 10 years I reckon.

Played them reasonably regular upto 80/81 season when we played them in the old Division 3. Think both games were 0-0 including the Boxing Day game at Saltergate watched by 17000 people, Barnsley were promoted that season and the rest is history. Then we played them again during 2002/2003 and 2003/2004 seasons. Yesterday was first time since 2003/2004 season.

For a club or their size & potential, they have done remarkably well to spend so much time in the Championship over the last 34 years with a one season expedition into the Premiership. If we could achieve anything near that length of stay in the 2nd tier with no sign of going into the basement, then I think that we would all be very happy.

You're incorrect BlueDay.

We played them in the league in 2005/6.

Almost a decade, I think that's a very long time. I regard them as a bigger club than us (probably bigger population) similarly with Doncaster, with us and Rotherham on a par

Barnsley are a bigger club than us unquestionably. Doncaster less so, if at all.

I'd love to know why a club who attract more fans than we do, have a bigger ground, have played at a higher level than us (and on a more consistent basis), and are previous winners of the FA Cup aren't a bigger club than us

No I don't. I'd love to see the counter argument to this one though. I really would.

But you probably won't have one.

I suppose it is a generation thing. They didn't seem that big in the 70s when they were getting 4000/5000

Lots of clubs are bigger than us nowadays because they have had a golden 5 or 10 years
