So we sell Morsy. Seems to be a fashionable idea at the moment, but we need to replace him with somebody as good or better, or we lose the very area of the field where we're at our best. But part of his transfer fee will be retained to service the debt, so unless you know of a Championship class midfielder who we can sign for peanuts it isn't a very good idea, is it? To replace him we'd probably end up at least 50 grand down on the playing budget - with a slightly smaller debt and a midfield no better, and very likely worse.
You don't succeed by selling your best players, you build the team around them.
So it would be an idea to sell Hird and several others, but you might be able to see the snag to that?

Sam M.is the last one we should consider selling he would be the most difficult to replacable.

But he will be sold; of that there is no doubt. Of course we wont be able to replace him with the equivalent, because we couldn't afford such a player. That's the way it is. All clubs, even Manchester United (eg Ronaldo) have to sell their best players at whatever level. Moreover who are we to stand in the lad's way? Yes he might not get as many games at a higher level, but you can guarantee he will double his wages and have more chance of being spotted by his preferred national side.

2)How much did he cost

I don't think we can bank of being as lucky as we were with Morsy. Fall out with his own boss and personally known to Cook as he's from Wolverhampton where Cook's lads live.

Exactly. People trying to suggest that some Premier League/Championship clubs wont have players Like Sammy Clingan available to loan/transfer are living in Fantasy Island, as well as players like the lad at Shrews you mention.

The Original point was squad rebuilding, and how to do this - with Morsy being our most valuable asset we could use the fee for debt reduction and squad building, assuming he goes for a 7 figure sum of course.
A new hope.

First of all, we can't replace Morsy long term with a loan player, it needs somebody to come in and be a keystone of the squad, as Morsy is.
Secondly, for a transfer we'd need to get a Championship class player, and one who'll take a reduction in wages. Won't happen.
Morsy won't fetch anywhere near a seven figure sum.
Sammy Clingan was years ago, and in the meantime we've seen any number of fairly useless players come and go. Clingan was the exception to the rule, but only ever a loan player in any case.
This Fantasy Island - maybe you should think of building a raft.

There are thousands of options, but we've got a midfielder who's worth, at a guess, half a million quid plus. How many of those options are that good, and how many of those would take the money we're offering.
Getting Morsy was a bit of luck, basically. The chances of it happening again are slim to vanishing point. A time will come when we can't stand in his way, but until that day we should be hanging on for dear life, and using the present midfield domination to build on the other areas where we need to strengthen.
You'll know where they are.

Wasnt Clingan available for transfer after his loan period. In what way was he the exception to the rule?
