Shocking stuff. Anyone got a stat on this? League Cup has been much kinder to us

Peterborough in the 80s

I remember a good performance at Stoke in thier heyday and being well beaten at Sunderland in the 70s but they are probably outside Ex3 window of 40 years.

That is it as far as I can remember in 45+ years that I've been a supporter

We must have the worst fa cup record of all the league sides? I think we've only been in the third round 3 times in the last 40 years or something like that and that includes the semi final year. I know we lost at Ipswich and was it Sunderland years ago? I can't really recall any others categorically other than third round against Ipswich

Can we even count Ipswich after the fiasco of the previous round?

When you look at it like that, our record is worse than abysmal

Was at both games, Kev Randall took Mike Pejic to pieces at Stoke, but I think we lost 2-1, and took my son (his first game) to Roker Park and it proved a real baptism for him on the terraces 'cos we were peed on by a drunken Sunderland supporter from the tier above! :o -worse still we lost 2-0..........

Just looked at train prices on the off-chance - Chesterfield to MK return on the Saturday - just over a ton. Bargain.

Only £64 from Chesterfield but the ground is nearer Bletchley anyway. Just as well really as MK UK is not the sort of place to be seen dead in

Pre match entertainment in IKEA and Asda :o

On the upside, nice seats, especially if you have piles

Same reason he puts there instead of they're I guess. Not sure what the reason is though.

I don't think it is as that is a very common error but haf instead of have is uniquely bizarre.

Peterborough was January 81. My first match. 1-1 at London Rd. 2 3rd appearances in 34 years and as I think you said, the Ipswich one feels tainted, like it doesnt really count. Put it like that and our semi final seems impossible

I remember a conversation I had in '97 where me and others acknowledged we'd likely 'pay' for that year with a lifetime of FA Cup misery afterwards. We happily accepted that at the time though.

My first third round match was at home in 1961 v the previous season's runners up, Blackburn. Famed for the three Ds in attack, Dobing, Douglas and Dougan. Both teams played in away kits, we in all white (that's my memory). We hit the woodwork about three times, including twice in one attack, drew 0-0 and lost the replay 3-0.

Researching this, it surprised me how well we did in the 60s, lost to Oxford in 1964, Peterborough in 1965 (that plonker Dougan again), Blackpool in 1968 and Portsmouth in 1969, all while we were in the bottom league.

There was one more appearance and defeat before the 40 year window, Stoke in 1972.

THEY WERE LUCKY TO BEAT US UP HERE,WE'LL HAVE A BIG NOISEY FOLLOWING TO SEE US MARCH INTO THE 3RD AGAINST HOPEFULLY MAN.UTD. SO THAT WE CAN REPEAT WHAT MK DID TO THEM.

If Hirds diving header had gone in instead of hitting the post when they were on the ropes in the first half I think we would have won

Not sure any trip to Milton Keynes can be described as "nice". ;)

Wow!!!!!!!

Lets just remind ourselves of a few things.........

This is MK Dons not Chelsea, they are the last time I looked in the same League as us. They are a decent side but how some people have gone off on this thread anyone would think they are unbeatable and we are on a hiding.

However lets tip this up on its side for a moment.....

MK Dons over the last few seasons have to put it mildly 'underachieved' . They have in the main a decent budget for this level but time and time again have failed to make it into the Championship. I put this down to the the Manager who would win the flatter to deceive manager award if there was one every year.

Time and time again, one of the brightest managers in the game, a future premiership manger for sure, the big tome beckons for Robinson blah blah blah.

But what has this man achieved.........

As we would say Nowt, nothing, zero, nil,!!

So forgive me if I do not join in the chorus of gloom, because as far as I can see it or maybe I am missing something Karl Robinson I just do not get the hype!!!

They are beatable no doubt and this tie is there for the winning, we have just got to get a sense of level perspective.

BTW yes I did notice that smug smirk on his face as well, one which I am sure PC would like to wipe of his fellow scousers face

To me this is a bonus game. How many years have we had to follow the Mrs round christmas shopping due to a blank Saturday?

I seem to remember the last time we won there they were flying high and we were mid table - and that was one of the best away days Ive ever witnessed!

And as someone else said, the seats and leg room are lovely.

So lets not despair. Yes they will probably win, but thats football.

The defeat at Blackpool in 1968 was unlucky. And Wilson turned Jimmy Armfield inside out many times and Ivan Hollett scored a great

header at the far post but Pool scored a deflected goal late on to win 2-1

I wanted to go to the Blackburn replay in 1961 but my dad said I was too young !!

I realise now I was too young but probably only to stop him going in the pub with his work mates :windup

Went on a works (my Dad's work) bus to Blackpool. Driver took us though Barnsley, getting proper lost, and we arrived some 10 minutes after the start. Question for you - did Kevin Randall play? I think he did- I recall him setting up David Pugh with an open goal in front of our fans while it was still 1-1, and Pughie scooping the ball over the bar from all of four yards. Things is- CFC history website says Randall scored (agree with you it was in fact Hollett), but that the team was:

J Roberts, AV Holmes, G Sears, A Phelan P Neale, EM Hughes, AP Moore, DG Pugh, IR Hollett, K Kettleborough, A Wilson sub G Clarke. I am sure that isn't right.

Attendance over 21,000! Tony Green was their star man.

Just checked on Sky Is Blue CFC website and it clearly and quite rightly lists Ivan Hollett as the goalscorer. Att: 21,457.

So last appearance at home in third round on a Saturday, was in the late sixties! Sometimes think Town and the Fa Cup were not meant to be!
