Morsy pushed higher up the pitch away from home I see this team as being more defensive but without losing the 4231 formation that suits us.

.............Lee. ..........
........Evatt. ..marg.......

tendayi.................Jones

..........gobern..Ryan. .....

................Morsy..........

........Gardner. ......Clucas

..................Doyle. .......
ITS NOT THE WINNING,ITS THE TAKING APART

Morsy seems to anchor the midfield better for me but It could work

Think this would work better with Ryan or gobern further up the pitch to be honest.

Did morsy play higher up vs Walsall? Maybe they want him to bag a few to get more money for him in January.
Here we go again!

I'd probably swap Ryan for Morsy in that. Neither though are brilliant in the final third. If they were they'd score more goals.

That's similar to how I see it but don't expect Gobern to be pushed forward. He's clearly intended to be the midfield back line. Our problem is not so much getting midfielders further forward as getting them behind the opposition defence to pick up scraps in support of Doyle. Clucas does this quite well but we need A N Other to join in.

Whilst I have some sympathy with what you say we have to accept this season that some of the games when we have been at our free flowing attacking best have also been games where we have been at our defensive worst, let's not kid ourselves that this is not a genuine problem.
Now we could just carry on attacking all out and hope that doyles flow of goals come back and continues, and the rest of the team chips in and we win more than we lose, or we can accept defending is a team game which involves all eleven players, not just our back five and try and find a way to defend more solidly as a unit and blend that with the attacking play.
I think Paul Cook is trying to find the latter, but I don't think it's easy.
As I said on another thread, the way the season is developing is similar to last season, nice start followed by a bit of a tactical struggle.

That's the team I want to see, forget Gobern slowing it down. we must play our usual high tempo passing game and then Doyle will have more chance of adding to his great tally so far. Saturday was aweful and I don't want to see a repeat.

IMO Cook needs to either curtail the full backs a little or instil I to his midfield that someone needs to cover if they are forward. And stop swapping the wide midfielders about for no reason. Unless we are being completely nullified leave Clucas on the left
A new hope.

Absolutely no idea why we have brought gobern in, he brings nothing that morsy Ryan or banks can't do, also less mobile than any of them.
Terrible defending as a team, never seen anyone keep running from so deep and get so much success from it, I'm pretty sure at least one of their runs went straight from doyle, right through the midfield and on to cause panic in our defence.
We are far too easy to score against.

Your right about Gobern although if he moved much slower he'd be going backwards. Lazy, unfit or both I'm not sure about but I'm positive he adds nothing to our squad whatsoever.

Certainly not the bloke it needs to shore up a defence that's chronically short of pace. And that's the main problem, which tinkering with the midfield won't alter.

Have to agree with you about Evatt, he ian't really the deal in L1, where strikers are quicker

Tendayi has to bail Evatt out at least 2 or 3 times each game.

Sadly at the moment every one of our defence and midfield seems to need bailing out several times each game.
