I highly doubt that's the case. Armand seems to get a lot of support when he comes onto the pitch from where I'm sitting so unless he reads this message board I can't see where he'd be seeing this 'ridicule'. I think there's a lot of excuse-making going on here.

Edit; I should point out that I really hope Armand comes on leaps and bounds whilst at Tranmere and comes back to the Proact and does well for us. It'll do him good to get consecutive starts.

We'll have to disagree on that then.

My thoughts are supported by having seen him score v The Red Lion or some team in the Derbyshire cup and the fact that if you can hit a ball like that then it doesn't matter who the opposition are. so what if it only comes off 1 in20 times. On the rare occasions he has tried something outlandish on the bigger stage it has failed (Bristol rovers excepted) and the murmurings of consternation (perhaps a better word than ridicule)have grown over the course of time and are quite audible

SOME town fans are only happy when they have "a whipping boy" to get stuck into, the likes of Tony Moore, Barry Roache, Chris Perkins etc (how long could the list be?) spring to mind. This season, with the class of players we have could be difficult for them, Nando not has technically talented as some may fit the bill in their eyes

As you say, given space, that's one thing you don't get in this league, Nando and now Doyle get marked quickly and closed down.

Yeah, 'cause our strikers last season scored so many goals. Oh wait a minute.........

Because those other 19 times are simply surrendering possession. If he is frequently trying outlandish things and they're not coming off aside from the one match you quote then why is it surprising that people aren't happy with that?

As for whipping boy, I'm not sure where the line is drawn between not rating a player and him being a "whipping boy".

Obviously 1 in 20 are "plucked out" the air figures (plucked out the air meaning having no substantiation in this instance) however maybe the mantra of "we score a goal, the opposition kick off, we get the ball, we score a goal, the opposition kick off, we get the ball, we score a goal ad -infinitum should apply to keep people happy.

A "whipping boy" someone who takes unjustified "stick" from some small minded person who derives pleasure from offering abuse mainly verbal to player (generally less talented than the norm within that team) of a team he/she purports to support.

An example:-

During 69-70 promotion season Tony Moore played a vast majority of games and got ridiculous stick from certain sections, the guy who stood behind me could be very vociferous.TM curled one into the top corner (kop end) to secure promotion v BPA (Bradford) the majority where in raptures, the bloke behind me no, all he could say "cross, F****** cross, never meant it."

Can u remember Gwyn Lewis late 50s early 60s 58 goals in 123 games He got same amount of stick as Tony Moore

Give over. He scuffs shots for us and presumably also attempts to head crosses in.

The gaffer at Chesterfield said they don't play football (on about tranmere/Micky Adams side)

I come here to head

I like midfield but I have to play striker because I'm tall

"I did well in L1 against port vale when Mickey adam was the gaffer" "I want to get first team football." "tranmere are better than bottom of the league"

asked about the goal/getting in the box "I know English football, I like to play midfield but I am tall so I need to use my head" "scoring felt good"

asked about staying longer than a month "I don't know, I just want minutes on the pitch" "If the gaffer and the lads want me maybe I stay, I don't know" " I want to help the club be in a better place in the table"

Both Rovers and Dons fans saying Nando was the difference and the stand out player [quotes]...

A Rovers fan:
Our goal was fantastic, however, a great individual strike by Nando from 25 yards out. As has been commented above, we also showed good character to get back in the game so quickly after conceding an early goal.

In the second half we completely dominated. Our front three caused them all sorts of problems, with Nando outstanding and Odejayi having his best half in a Rovers shirt. Other than the equaliser - finally a goal from a set play - our best chance fell to Donnelly, which he unfortunately skied.

Collectively, we again worked tremendously hard as a team, with and without the ball. Individually, Nando was man of the match, but I thought Laird and Holness also had very good games; the former seems to be blossoming under the new manager.

A Dons fan:
He was excellent. Probably the best player on the pitch, we would've won comfortably if not for him.

Another Rovers fan:
Few more performances like that and i can see us putting a bid in for him in January.

I`m not sure - hes unpredictable and as loopy as bag of frogs.

What position would you play him in if he went into midfield?

I wouldn't consider it in a month of Sundays.

He'd be about level with Evatt returning there in my list of players to put there out of position.

I'd heard the name but just before my time. I regularly went to Central League games with my Grandad in the early 60's and a lad by the name of Plant (left winger never made the !st team) got some horrendous stick with the smaller attendances at these games the stick became more personal. It was this abuse that introduced me to term as referred to by Grandad as a "whipping boy"

i really don't think armand is a whipping boy, certainly nothing personal has been said from what i've seen. if people don't rate him then they don't rate him, they're not gonna kiss his backside just cos he's in a town shirt

Armand is certainly not a a whipping boy. He's become some sort of cult-hero and has had a very easy ride from Town fans.

He's certainly not had the abuse during games (if any at all) that Whitaker received (and if anybody didn't deserve this is was Danny). That really did make me ashamed to support my team (I never want to go there ever again!)

He is to some on here, "car crash of a footballer" what a ridicules thing to say and very few objected to thoses words

Like in or not he is likely to have decent career in lower league football

Misunderstanding due to his relatively poor English I think. Adams has said that he doesn't want him dropping back into midfield areas which he was tending to do. He wants him in the box and they will work on getting good balls into him. Liking to go deep as opposed to being a midfielder I think.

If he was a whipping boy he would have been crucified over his last two town cameos, as he fell well short of the required standard. Town fans loved his effort, passion ,commitment and apparent love of the shirt and gave him a chance to improve without abuse and ridicule. I'm not sure I saw much effort and passion in those last 2 games
