Great memories of this one.....you would not get away with the politically incorrect chant of I'd rather be a P*** than a Blade that was sung all match from the kop, but remember thinking it was true !.....still winds me up to see the Union Jack with Spire Blades on in Centre Stand.....still we won 2-1 ...and best ever 22 man brawl to start a match !!

When we beat them 2-1 at our place 88/89 I was in the main stand (middle of one half closest to the kop), with a lad called John Lomas from work and they were all aorund us then. He wasn't happy when I jumped up to celebrate the goals, there weren't that many aorund us joining in.
IIRC after the game there was an inadequately small line of coppers seperating the blunts hooligans from us exiting the ground, there were bricks and allsorts flying over.
My brother was mascot that day having been picked from the Somersall Rangers junior setup at the time for some reason. He claims to have got a big cheer from the kop that day for doing some kick ups and then volleying it in during the warm up. We did have a copy of the game on video until it got taped over somehow! We were in the main stand that day but my uncle was on the Kop and reckons he more or less made up his entry money by picking up some of the coins that were being thrown over by Blunts!

That tackle on 5.30

And then 10 seconds later the commentator telling his mate over his shoulder it was 50/50.

These days he'd have just walked down the tunnel before the ref got to him...

Was about to post the same...its a shocking challenge! Fairly sure these days that pushing and shoving near the start would have seen at least one go as well!

What about that miss by the Yoo-nited player? Horrific.
Who filmed it and how many pints had they had before taking up the camera?

The old fella that did I believe has sadly passed away, his voice reminds me of Colin Crompton - the bloke on the fire bell in the wheeltappers and shunters club. I've watched many a grainy video of our games, games I was at and couldn't decipher what was happening on the pitch. Our videos and commentary have come on leaps and bounds since the early days of our matches being recorded.

Fantastic atmosphere. I don't know if I'm mixing matches up or not but was it this one that one of our lads were in amongst the blunts and made himself known and got a good thraping? I do remember a blond haired lad, bit stocky being led out of their end by the old bill a bit bloodied and when he got to the kop he got a great cheer.
Might be mixing the games up?
