It'll always get sung when we feel as one as a club. Same as 'we are the champions' will be sung when we win something. And the 'great escape' will be sung when we stay up..

Some songs fit a feeling, and are timeless, whether you personally like them or not.

I'm of the opinion that some of the older songs that try to get sung instead of stuff like, 'allez oh', suck, and only get a pass because people remember singing them as kids..

But on the other hand, no song should be discounted just because it has a long history. Every song should be viewed subjectively.

I'm sorry but it was great when Ernie Moss was playing for us.
We now have a new ground with a 3rd or 4th new club badge. Move with the times, let's get a new song going.
Don't get me wrong, I heard "sailing" being sung at Saltergate and I have fond memories of it but for the love of god why do we want to live in the past all the time? Use the past to build our future, stop trying to re-live it again.

And before anybody says anything about suggesting a new song. I listen to heavy metal and most of the stuff I listen to would scare the bejesus out of the young and old so don't ask me. :)

Was originally written by Sutherland brothers and their version sounds much more like a football chant. Try this

Nah, let's stick with sailing. Sounds brilliant when everyone joins in as per Burton. I don't care why it's sung, I don't care when it was regularly sung back in the day, I don't care if it's "complacent" or "miserable", it sounds good so I like it.

At least it is reasonably original. I was surprised how it took off as it always seems to be rubbished on here.

All the old songs are making a come back, then we re-adopt them. Why wait to hear it at Spurs or Manure.

Oh and next time some old ****** starts up Molly Malone that should be adopted

Whilst You'll never walk alone is never sung at Liverpool these days is it. Or Delilah at Stoke or Annie's Song at Sheffield United.

We are Sailing sounded fantastic on Sunday and fingers crossed it keeps getting sung.

The words are easy to remember, there is nothing to it.
You sing and repeat the following four short and simple lines...

We are sailing, we are sailing,
home again 'cross the sea.
We are sailing stormy waters,
to be near you, to be free
(repeat)

Yes it isn't a rocket science one

we've got new songs but its good to keep some of the better old ones as a way of tradition. Sailing, blue flag and carefree are 3 songs that will hopefully be heard forever more

All I want on Saturday is for the MUPPET who plays the music to stop being idle and just putting on a Now Thats What I Call Music cd and have some imagination, 15mins before kick off get the volume wound up and play some kick a$$ dance tracks to get the atmosphere going. Some cheesy dance tracks would do anything to get the crowd going, BUT turn up the volume.

Any suggestions for cheesy dance tracks to get people moving???

I'll start it off with= House of Pain, Jump Around.

Play nothing at all, the atmosphere won't need any help.

There's logic in that, nothing worse that some so called uplifting music drowning out the singing as the teams come out

Sadly things have moved on and it is now the norm

its not re-living the past its a respect for tradition.

So stoke shouldn't sing Delilah, urinals annies song, west ham I'm forvever blowing bubbles, Liverpool you'll never walk alone either eh?

I grew up as a kid listening to sailing, molly Malone and the grass of saltergate......I loved them then, I love them now and I will always love them.

PS: Hope you're still not listening to motorhead, ac/dc, whitesnake, kiss etc as we don't want to live in the past now do we!Posted Image

More often the original is best but Stewart's version of this song is better. Its more atmospheric, his croaky voice adds feeling but also the guitar work in the cover makes it more uplifting and the softer instrumentals at the end close it nicely . The end of the original version is naff by comparison and the intro is grating.
