Went in yesterday with a couple of nephews. They had 25 quid each to buy some bits and came out very disappointed with nothing purchased.

I know it’s been posted on here before but I was horrified thinking there was a sell out crowd was there yesterday and not a bit of merchandise on sale ? Surely you would have stalls outside at least selling t shirts, polo shirts, scarves, mugs etc as a minimum?

I was under the impression the club were wanting to maximise business opportunities and incline streams! Start with the shop is my advice

Devils advocate a bit but this time of year is always likely to be a bit of a turnover point for the shop. They've just had a sale to clear out the current seasons kits and stock and probably have one eye on restocking for next season plus we didnt even know we had a home game yesterday until 5pm last Saturday so it doesnt leave much time to get new stock in. They could potentially have got some tshirts printed up with something but would they be worth it.

That's the thing fella there always seems to be an excuse.

It's hopefully on the club's improvement plan

I think for this one its a fair reason for the stock being low in the shop. They werent going to order a load of new stuff in from Puma for yesterday, they will be looking at stuff for later in the summer plus new kits to come. I'd be amazed if the Kirks havent identified it as a good income stream to be maximised but there is still the point that stock needs to be got in. Had it just been a load of cheap quickly made tat available in a few days after ordering yesterday then you'd likely have criticised it as well.

And the Fanzone.
I sat in the sun on the stone perimeter wall for half an hour. Very nice. From 1.45 people were complaining that they couldn't get a drink. Rammed. This experiment has surely passed the prototype stage with flying colours, and a permanent upgrade must be in the Improvement Plan. Incidentally, folk were also complaining that all the drinking establishments were rammed. There's a big opportunity there for a gifted architect.

What happened to the bar that was supposed to be built within the footprint of the stadium?

Can't the Fanzone be done as a joint venture? The business case must be clear by now. The numbers must be in.

Available merchandise has always been an issue of mine…. Now I’m not the type to buy a replica match shirt or training kit… (I do own some but that was due to having some club shop vouchers) a quick Google search will bring up some fantastic designs printed on T-shirts and hoodies etc… one of the best and most simple were the royal blue T-shirts with ‘town…’ printed in lower case white…. A bit like Man City did with ‘city’ or the old British rail logo with soccer special text…why can’t the club shop do the same??? Is it due to some obligation with puma???

I disagree. Sustainable income is essential.

The fan zone and lack of basic merchandise yesterday probably lost thousands in extra income.

What I don't understand is why they don't have a wider stock base, bedding, curtains, different flags, hats, a few different scarves, badges, socks, different water bottles etc etc. Look to turn over some volume over longer periods. If they don't sell straight away, so what. Put them in a stock room and just sell online then rotate in club shop? the club badge or name never changes (or shouldn't). Unfortunately, it's far easier at the moment to get stock or range from 3rd parties on eBay. Wouldn't say ebay is any cheaper but diffidently easier. This argument about things struggling to sell really shouldn't be a argument. As it just stays online as stock. For me there's no reason why stock should run low, apart from the football kits. As for the price of football kits, not at next seasons prices.

I would say it's very poor. It does need a major re-think. We still manage the club shop like a porta cabin in Saltergate days.

You could even have a way of viewing extended stock range through a customer focused ipad/ computer in the club shop.

There was talk around Xmas time re having a scarf day. Wasn't it said the club were getting some scarfs and to delay said day until arrival. Have these scarfs arrived yet?

I think part of the issue is that there is no real space for storing all the stock so it sort of is what you see is whats available. There is no space for storing the suggested curtains etc.

I think that's part of the problem, there isn't a stock room, afaik?

Which is why we only keep stock that'll turn over quickly

Income is useless if you're going to spend it on players who have nowhere to train.
