He’s certainly not a long or even short term solution for me.

I think he looks good shouting and pointing and being labelled 'an organiser'. But yeah, not really a mark up on Grimes - in fact, I'd say Jamie is quicker and has better ball distribution

Didn’t Colin Prophet, one of the worst centre half’s we’ve had (and we’ve had many good uns), do a lot of shouting and pointing and putting his arm up to appeal for offside to hide the fact he was rubbish?

They are no more nor less important than than anyone else’s, so button it. I didn’t want it getting lost in the match thread and it wasn’t just about his performance today. It concerns the fact that people raved about him like he was Van Dyke when he’s actually nothing special.

It’s funny how our players not playing get better and better. Grimes doesn’t have anywhere near the passing ability of McFazden.

Getting lost in the match thread because your opinions are more important than other people in there?

Yeah the cross field diagonal which sailed over (I think ) Mandeville's head was a corker.
But, the same with JG too.
My point is McFaz isn't a mark up on JG bar looking important with his gesturing.
Btw, I think Grimes adds more as he is a better goal threat in the opposition box on set pieces than KMc....but all opinions 😉

Another one eye who only reads half the response. I will repeat for you - it isn’t just about today’s game but Fadz as a centre half solution next season. Some might be happy with it but not for me I’m afraid.

Forgetting the two he landed on Olakigbe’s foot and one to Mandeville. He is far better doing in that one in a while grimes but it’s more than that. He is much more comfortable with the ball as we build from the back in general and defensively he is very sound as well. I don’t think playing grimes bar potentially the threat from set pieces gives you anything more.

Today, Fleck’s main contribution appeared to be to get the ball to MacFadzean. I expected him to be the man using his experience to drive us on. Instead, he was more negative than Oldaker at his most negative worst. Just playing the ball to a CB is possession for possession’s sake. Then losing the ball in dangerous positions is not what you expect from a player who has played at such a high standard.
Walsall’s system seemed quite simple. Hassle and defend for your lives, get it forward quickly, chase it down the channels, get a free-kick, throw-in, corner or whatever but apply pressure on the penalty area.
They create danger from a throw-in. We create danger on ourselves from our own throw-ins. Maybe, we need to get a long throw merchant in for next season because we don’t seem to know what to do when we have a throw. Add to that a bit more height and pace and we might be equipped for this league next season.

And Grimes has played some excellent attacking through balls when playing too.
We could bat this back and forth but it's all about opinion.

If you can’t see what he brings to the side there’s little point in trying explain

He brings something to the table but unfortunately he also brings a short term approach, we have got out the national league after years of despair, we are a league outfit now and we need a fresh kick of paint

Nothing wrong with the short term approach is there, we have him for a season, use the benefits he brings and then next year it’s thanks-nor no thanks

What young CB wouldn’t t benefit by playing along side

Similar with Grigg and Pepple, in that the more experienced Grigg seems to just know better where to be and when.
I know Grimes has plenty of experience but McFadzean, having played so long at a higher level, seems the better bet to me.
