Was this the one on Yorkshire TV with Martin Tyler commentating, and all you could hear was the town fans singing “MartinTyler is a ****@, is a ****@…”

He got some game time in Pre Season but has been limited to academy games since.

Still annoyed we lost that lad.

I don’t recall us v Watford being captured on TV.
the watford match which was filmed by Yorkshire TV in October 1978 was just before home video recorders were readily available in this country
Footage from the match still excists though because on a fairly recent feature on Luther Blissett his goal at the cross street end was shown

Honestly, where has the charm of the FA cup gone?
It used to be all about the little clubs and there day out with the big boys, now it's fox them we need viewing figures..
Other than the NE Derby game non of them are very appealing

I've dug the matchday programme out for the Watford game that was featured on TV. It was played on Saturday 21/10/78 and was shown on Yorkshire TV's Sunday afternoons football programme the day after. A 2-0 win for Watford and the matchday programme price was an extortionate 15 pence lol.
The matchday programme displayed the teams as Chesterfield v Watford Town. I'm not sure the Town part was entirely accurate though as I've never heard them reffered to as that. I noticed the Watford team had a certain John Stirk playing right back for them that day plus Luther Blissett who later went on to be capped for England. The late great Rodney Fern played for us that day.

Thanks, can’t recall that at all, although, as Whittman posts. that maybe because there were very few video recorders around at the time, so nothing to remind me. Or the fact we lost. Mind it is 45 years ago.
I’ve just been looking on CFC history. A few weeks after that game, we were 9th in the league. We fell away to 20th, just 4 points above the relegation places by the end of the season. Who’d have thought we’d be pushing hard for promotion the next season.

You're welcome mate. I particulary remember that game as it was the first game I took my girlfriend (now my wife of 42 and a half years) to. She's now Chesterfield mad as opposed to just being mad lol.
Yes we did fall away quite badly later that season but some quality recruitment by Arthur Cox the season or two after gave us some great memories.

Looking at the draw and then the televised games the Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Wigan games are ok. The Arsenal/Liverpool is just typical. Sadly there are few true minnows v big boys in the draw
Which ones would you have gone for? I’d be struggling to choose.
