If we work on the basis that we may have only Grimes, Cook and Williams as central defenders next season I think maybe one more central defender ought to be recruited.

Deffo. Think we’re a CB, keeper and possibly a CM short atm

If atm means "at the moment" rather than a machine from which I can draw cash then atm we still have Gunning and Maguire as CBs.

If at sometime in the future they both leave then we will appear to be a LCB short unless one of the LBs recently signed can cover there or, in fact, Carline is offered something.

Players will still be available after the season starts and atm our squad is too big at 24 players including only one keeper.

There’s only Loach who is out and out positional player. The rest of the squad are flexible in where they can do a good job, we could manage with what we have and any more additions are going to be cover. I was under the impression Cook preferred the smaller squad but maybe his developement remit sees us having a look at the likes of Cook, Clarke, Dobra even Gyasi for future income.
God I hate this league.

I would say it’s only as a stop gap and not for an extended period (especially against teams like Boreham Wood and Solihull). Personally I’d re-sign Carline for cover across the back line but maybe he doesn’t fit the PC profile profile

We’ll obviously, if we pick up long term injury we re assess.

And, to be able to re-asses throughout the season room needs to be left within the budget to allow such re-assessment. That's why I feel the current squad of 24 plus a couple more, as some are suggesting, is bloated.

The issues last season was the amount of injuries being carried. We ain’t seen any of the new guys in a competitive game so how you can judge anything is difficult to grasp.

You think it's impossible to judge someone's ability before they've played for town? What about every game before then?

Banks is a cut above Khan. So is Cooper. They're both clear. IMO Clarke and Rowe are better too in the CAM role and Oyeleke is in CM. I'm not sure where people are expecting Khan to fit.

I'll accept I've not seen that much of Oldaker so perhaps Khan might make it ahead of him in CM while Oyeleke is out. I hope not though as I'm hoping Oldaker is going to be a good enough signing to warrant starts. I've also not seen a huge amount of Gyasi but they're completely different players so which of them gets in the 3 might depend on tactics.

Like I said, I expect he'll play a good number of games but he's not in our strongest 11 imo.

So now it might be

Loach
Sheckleford Williams Grimes Clements
Oldaker Khan
Cooper, Rowe (Capt), Clarke
Tshimanga

Subs : Quigley, King, Gyasi, Horton, Cook

Well, having seen one match, my eclectic team becomes.......

Covolan
Sheckleford, Williams, Grimes, Clements
Oldaker, Banks
Dobra, Rowe, Clarke
Tshimanga

I've got a 'bludddy hell, he can't be this good' feeling about Sheckleford. And I've gone for Clements over Horton with no real data except height.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

As mad as it sounds, I'm convinced Mandy starts. Barely misses a game under PC.

Think Clarke will be a slow burner but definitely a right player in there.

Think Dobra could be the lynchpin of the team when attacking, carrying the ball into the opponents half, leaving the likes of Mandy more room to play in, but the players we have at our disposal hopefully means we have some good attacking options. So if Mandy doesn’t perform, we hopefully have the squad to change it.

I wonder, just wonder, if Roberts is trying to get Asante to play left side like he used to, and not so much an out n out forward? Be an interesting and damn fine experiment if they got it to work!?

Well, he's been very patient and there must have been some immense work done on the training pitch but I think we just witnessed a turning point in Sheck's career. He's got Tendi's defensive qualities (and his attacking deficiency in that he can't get a cross past the first defender yet). Strong, fit, tenacious. New contract please.

I thought Sheckleford was brilliant v Orient; best game I've seen him play. Regarding crossing the ball, I think that is one of our few negatives this season - we seem to work the ball into good crossing positions very regularly, then hit the first defender or the keeper far too often.

Main thing is you want your defenders to defender which RS does very well

A combination of RS and JK and you have a championship full back
