So, having time to reflect on yesterday and the first two months of the season this is the way I see it.

First team yesterday :-

Fulton - an average player still learning his trade. Seems to have very little communication with his back four
O'Neill - a nothing player. Offers very little, no real depth to any of his game. A poor signing who appears not to be bothered.
Hird - the leader of the side. Solid performances, made to look poorer than he is because of the players around him. Misses a fully fit, and fighting weight Evatt.
Anderson - little impact. Awful distribution and seems panicky anywhere near the ball
Donahue - has potential but ultimately a kid thrown into a relegation fight far too early in his career.
Ariyibi - strong argument that should have been sold. Has offered very little in games and as we have said before simply disappears if he can't beat his man within the first 10 minutes
Liddell - a truly awful player and arguably the most ineffective captain I have ever seen in 25 years. Would be dropped If we had anyone else.
Nolan - like Hird struggling with playing next to a very poor player.
O'Shea - a player whose confidence looks completely shot. Looked far better earlier in the season playing off Evans. Now trying to be shoehorned into a wide position where we all know he is not effective.
German - a kid who should not be anywhere near the starting line up.
Evans - a class act who looks unfit after his months off. Will not be here this time next year. Question is will he be off in January? If I were him I would be off like a shot.

Squad:-

Paper thin. Jones, Lee, a fit Evatt are desperately needed. There is no evidence that Martinez will return. Other players are simply out of their depth and for some, playing two divisions above where they should be.

Management. Probably a nice guy, but uninspiring manager employed by the boys network. No amount of management skills are going to turn the majority of the squad into better players, but his track record in the transfer department is very poor. A two year deal for Dimaio says it all.

Senior management. Seemingly don't care. Not bothered about relegation as they werent around 5 years ago. They should sell and get out.

Where from here?

Employ Shane Nicholson. Get Evatt back to full fitness, he looks like he is carrying two stone extra weight.

Find a decent centre midfielder, left winger, left back, centre half and centre forward on loan. And quickly. Money needs to be spent.

Management. If he doesn't turn it around in the next month he should be sacked, as should any manager who could have a one win in fifteen odd games record.

Ultimately this looks like, feels like and probably will be a relegation season.

Utter rubbish to sum it up.

Not many will be able to argue with much of that, and I agree with majority of it, sums up where we are.

How many games did Barnsley go last season when they couldn't buy a win?

Totally agree, but can we wait another month before we wield the axe?

Can't see any money coming out of the wallet in January, hopefully there will be, but can we trust Wilson if there is any money to spend. We think he should go now, before it really is to late.

Well you have to be posh on here.

I'd like to know what contract we have with DW. Another 2 and half years???? If this is the case, talking into acccount the payoff for the last management lot etc. I really can't see them sacking Wilson.

IF they did sack Wilson, they would only put CM in the hot seat anyway and that would change nothing Imo.

There are teams in this league with whom we can't compete. They have strength in depth, experience in every position, mental and physical strength, confidence. What we saw yesterday was every one of our players losing his personal battle following their goal. Until then we had strived to keep them out but the effort couldn't be maintained.

There are teams though with whom we can compete. The number might only be 7 or 8, but we can keep out of the relegation zone in this mini league if we get points from them. It's going to be a knife edge.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Sheridan had a run of 17 matches without a win at one stage but still Allen did not sack him that season

TBH I think we are dead in the water. Even if we did great buisness in January and changed the manager if needed I honestly think we'll be cut adrift way before then. It was total suicide to go into the post window period with the squad we had. So it now proves.

Fair comment. Agree with that I still think Nolan flatters a little. I know I'm going to be shot down but he's partly to blame

The realisation is, the fans have cottoned on that there is nothing they can do about this mess, the people that can, don't appear for whatever reason to want to, so the fans are drifting away in their droves, unlikely to return.

If Mr Allen thinks that the fans will be back to see a big promotion season in the division below next year, my advice will be, think again, that ship sailed long ago!

The fact that we will come know where near to selling out the Sheff Yoo game should be a massive wake up call, sadly I think the phone has already been disconnected, just as so many people have with the club.

Sad times.

Yesterday I had absolutely no intention of going after a lifetime of Chesterfield Fc home and away through thick and thin well the thin has just snapped.

My opinion is that this is not Danny's fault. He's inherited a poor side and a lot of baggage that's going to cling on until the end of their contracts. The little bit of movement he's had in the transfer market has been very restricted, so the people he's brought in have been bargain basement . We have a starting 11 that has got a few quality players in there but also has some boys in there that are not ready. The bench is not as good as the 1st team so we are unlikely to change the game dramatically from there. If the board sack Danny do you think the next man is going to inherit a bigger budget? Not a chance. If they sack Danny they will probably have to pay some sort of compensation.
I think we will have to bite the bullet this year ,relegation is the most likely ,just scraping through and avoiding the drop is probably the best we can hope for.Let Danny get the dead wood out of the team at the end of the season. He will have had ample time to know who's good enough .Who else has has as much experience as him?

I would go with what other posters are saying Danny should walk away he is one of our own always will be a playing legend but no one can work with their hands tied behind his back.

Not disagreeing with that, but if the chairman thinks we will be flocking through the turn styles to watch 2nd division rubbish, he really doesn't know anything about football or the people of Chesterfield.

He doesn't care. Wonder what he would do from a business prospective if people stopped going to the dogs or his casinos

He doesn't know anything about football. Anyone who thought we'd be ok with Ariyibi going on an occasional mazy run and Ched bragging a few goals even though the rest of the team was woefully under strengthened is dillusional.

Chesterfield Fans did flock through the turnstiles to watch league 2 though. What were the attendances for the last 2 home games in 2011 and 2014? And what was the average attendance for home fans in during those seasons?
