But given an encouraging start to our return to the third tier, in marked contrast to events following our last promotion, what do Town fans attribute the difference to?
Me?
Simple: the defensive shield of Morsy and Ryan.
I know Spireites will always appreciate Dean Holden's honesty and quality, whilst we'll take nothing away from the contribution of those around him back then. However Hird and Evatt are a class above whilst Darikwa and Jones are looking more than comfortable thus far.
It's the energy and dynamism of our holding duo that allows them the licence to express themselves, though, and it's so much easier for a central partnership when they don't have folk running at them through the midfield.
That's from a massive Mark Allott fan, too.
There's also Sam and Jimmy's constant availability, always offering an outlet 'to feet' for pressurised defenders.
Make no mistake; securing the services of these assets is a tremendous coup and one we should seek to build upon long term. I'm convinced Morsy will become our first million pound sale: we can only hope that by that time the Club has evolved to cope with such a loss.

How long before Shawky Gharib comes to watch one of our matches?

Are biggest mistake last time in League 1 was that we never had a midfield!!

To answer OP's point I just think we have better players that won league 2 and the majority have stayed with us.

A better side, with a much better balance to it and this side stayed together. Last time it was based on a front 3 and 2 of those while the other was injured

Thankyou.
I think that this time we have a team with a true team spirit that runs from Chris Turner right through to the tea lady, all instigated by Paul Cook himself. The bloke has changed the clubs attitude throughout.

Correct. it's this true team ethos that has more of a bearing on performances than any one individual.

Nailed it spot on for me, Maestro. Ryan and Morsy are the difference, both attacking and particularly defending.
All the stranger, then, that PC started with Ryan on the right wing and it took an injury to Hird to make him revert to the Ryan/ Morsy midfield that has served us so well. I can only assume he's trying to get Johnson a few games so that he can be a genuine replacement if either of the main men are injured, but I'd have liked to see a few more points on the board before he went down that road.
I see that everybody is touting Morsy as our first million pond player, and quite rightly, but Jimmy Ryan is just as vital in my opinion. The two complement each other.

Folk have to remember that poor old Allott at the time was having to compete against the likes of Ryan and Sami. He tried manfully but he was on to a loser.
