Let's look at things from Sam Clucas' perspective.

As he's already admitted we've a reputation for playing fluent, attractive, not to mention successful football. No wonder he told his agent to make the move happen the moment he learned of our interest.

However having played at the Proact he'd also know it has four, yes that's four sides. Standard stuff for most stadiums, yet not something he'd be used to at Field Mill.

I'm sure as he approached our ground to sign, no doubt beside himself with excitement and anticipation as he was driven between the 'twin spires', he'd have noticed the 'CFC Village'; a complex of flats and apartments housing young players recruited by our expanded scouting network. Again the kind of infrastructure he simply wouldn't have experienced at MTFC.

Then after passing through our open, airy, and modern reception, maybe stopping to take in the history and growing collection of honours on view in the trophy cabinet, there was probably a tour of the CFC hospitality areas. Spacious lounges that offer wide vistas and large scale comfort that once more made what he'd left behind look non league by comparison.

Across to the East Stand for a quick visit to the community facilities therein; floorspace, classrooms, offices, a childrens play area and popular cafe for day-to-day use by the Chesterfield public alongside a gym and rehabilitation suit not only beyond anything in North Notts, but on a par with many much larger clubs. We have a state of the art pool under our stand; our little neighbours just have puddles.

Finally, after all the details had been ironed out and Sam had nervously put pen to paper, had his picture taken and done the interviews, there might've been a friendly 'See you in the morning for training' from the Manager. Closely followed by him adding 'Oh, and don't bother with the sandwiches you needed at that last place - the squad get a chef prepared meal every day, here'.

Sam Clucas could be forgiven if a wide, beaming, satisfied smile spread all over his face.

PS: feel free to re-print on the Staglet site.

Mate you spent all last season telling us how you weren't in the slightest bit interested in our little neighbours and now we're not even in the same division you're still doing it😂😂😂

As obsessed as you are with trying to prove I am bothered, 'TTFC'?

All I've ever said is that the greatest insult we can throw at them is indifference. Last season we were in the same division so they were fair game (pun intended), and as we've just humiliated them by pinching their hero - with help from the player himself - why not celebrate the fact?

Anyway pal, if you re-read my post it's as much about celebrating our progress as underlining our superiority.

Misquote: “Play it again, Sam”

This is often believed to have been said by Bogart in Casablanca. In fact, he closest Bogart came to the phrase was this: “You played it for her, you can play it for me…If she can stand it, I can. Play it!” Interestingly, Ingrid Bergman’s character comes closest when she says: “Play it, Sam.”
