Bolly did well to say all Dan Jones was doing in the first half was trying to stitch him up by firing inaccurate passes vaguely towards him.

Still missing Nathen Smith I see..?

According to Scunthorpe message board, we had a full strength side out and they dominated us.

Let's hope our reserves do better next time we play.

Lets hope their manager thinks it was out full strength team. My guess he isn't that stupid

This game was a bonus for Paul Cook to give game time to all the newbies and Dawes and Beesley. Scunthorpe played a strong team but never really bossed the game. We did ok but never really got going. Jones gave the ball away several times in the first 20 minutes but made some decent runs down the left. Armand was ok but never really threatened. Tendy had a good game as did Ryan and Johnson and were probably the stand out performances. Bolly looked as if he will cause defences problems, even from an early stage their defenders new what was coming and took him out everal times. Chapman looked very nervy and wanted to get rid too quickly without thinking. Banks is still not back to normal but did ok. The first goal was down to Broadhead and Raglan getting in each others way and looked schoolboyish, the second goal was a bad pass back causing Chapman to turn and slip, and unlucky.
Broadhead had his hands all over their player blocking a run and no argument for the 2nd booking
This game did feel like a practice/friendly match but must have been very useful to see what players could do against a 1st Division first team. There's one thing for certain it will be a differnt team selection when we play them again in a few weeks.
I see Paul Cook has been nominated for manager of the month.

My thoughts on tonight:-

This is wor I thought....
After all this time, first time I'd seen Broadhead in a full first team match, and I thought he was excellent. Taller and faster than Raglan, good passer - he would have been my choice alongside Evo had he not got sent off and we haven't got a loanee in.

Michael. Took over at CH when Broadhead went and immediately looked fit, hard, fast, composed. The old cynic in me tries to spot an obvious weakness that explains why he got released, but one wasn't obvious. That said, he didn't have much opportunity to shine alongside Jimmy cos he had to fill in at CH.

Bolly. Possibly got released because at the moment he's a bit light weight. He needs a fully inclusive break at Shinner's holiday camp for a couple of months. Superb feet. Very dangerous running at defenders.

Johnson. Improving with every game. His pedigree is obvious in that he's got a lovely left foot and he can operate at a quicker pace than his opponents. Bludddy good footballer. Sign him on.

Dawes. Missed an excellent opportunity to get us back in the game but forced a good save. Didn't get in the game much but he's direct and pacy.

Chapman. Totally unable to decide about him. Pulled off a miraculous save from a chip, but it was impossible to decide live whether he was out of position or whether the chip was sublime. Very vociferous and good distribution. I've got nagging doubts about whether his handling technique will ever be good enough.
And finally......drum roll....Armand. Gave 2 monster CH's as hard a time as they will have all season with his physicality. Held and distributed the ball very well. Set up the chance for Dawes with a lovely weighted pass. No chances taken or missed.
Get it on, bang the gong , get it on

Nope, Jones has been great for us and went on to have a good game but he started poorly last night and, as I said, stitched Gboly up plenty of times.

Eh? Broadhead was slow & they were both a bag of nerves, but Raglan looks to me like the better prospect. Alongside Evo he'll do fine.

Chapman's distribution wasn't good, he didn't seem to think about where he was hitting it. I said his kicking was off and 30 seconds later, he'd slipped and they bagged. Again this is no cause for concern, he will settle down and improve; all this can be learned with experience and coaching.

Dawes was okay, he's nifty and clever, if lacking confidence in front of goal and also to take defenders on.

Broadhead seemed to drift from decent to poor. He seemed to want to get to the ball before the striker all the time which got him into trouble frequently and ultimately ended up with him getting a red card.

Some valid points....I think daws is work in progress....he really let the game pass him by particularly in the second half. Armand showed he was improving, but didn't get much change out of that ex Wednesday centre half. He needs to create off his own back a bit more as well as flicking on....half of the time to nobody....I'm excited by his presence, particularly this year....he is the footballing equivalent of an mg montego turbo....compared with the base model!!
They all got good match practice. The standout player for me was Johnson simply when he was pushed further up the field. Lets face it, this team was experimental, patched up and a practice match to check out on the young ins. I'm not sure what strength Scunthorpe were....if they are bringing kee on, then they would be have had a decent starting 11.

.....has anybody any idea what his situation is at Villa?. Is he viewed as having so much potential that they wouldn't countenance us making a cheeky bid?.

You can coach all you want but its the mental side that takes over when its a real game and at pro level its all about being able to step up mentally.

I think this is spot on and showed in how the young un's played last night.

I like the look of all of them; they all look like good footballers but it's game time they need and experience of playing in front of crowds against opposition that are doing their very best in games that mean something. The way they handle the experience of being in competitive games will have a significant part to play in how they fare in their careers.
The greatest miscarriage of justice since my case against the producers of the Never Ending Story

dont knock montegos !

i had a 2 litre injection one many years ago , really messed up boy racers !

it was such a lightweight , rusty , s**t heap but - such acceleration off the spot .

used to work as as district nurse in town then and my fav day brightener was to pull up at the traffic lights on derby road near macdonalds ,

the boy racer or infact anyone with a decent car would pull up at the side and look pityingly at me and then -

the lights changed and i would be at 30 and stop accelerating before they realised what had happened -

they would try to pass and bingo ! the only working speed camera at that time in town would get them !

am i a bad person ?

It was a good workout for a very young teaam which didn't disgrace or embarrass itself especially after giving two sloppy goals away. I hate the watering of pitches and it had a big hand in the slips ups for the goals.Chapman lifted his head up and got on with it,although he his nowhere near Tommy's class. (by the way Tommy that was a stunning save).
Raglan or Broadhead would have been much better with Evo, to guide them but both put up a decent showing although Jack was found wanting a few times with his lack of pace. The new winger looked very sharp in the first hour and I'm sure PC's backroom staff will groom him well. The one player who did impress me in his short spell on the pitch was Wigum who showed a lot of coolness fitting in at the back. Young Beasley looks promising up front,I didn't like Dawes playing a wider role (he would have been better playing the McSheffrey deeper role,he had a cracking game for Scunny. Ollie looked off it for most of the game but came back well in the last 15mins. Nanndo continued his good form following the Vale match, I'm sure he'll soon be in the goals.Johnson looks a classy player in the last 2 games and I'm sure we;ve still to see his best. Ryan missed his mate Sammy, but had a cracking game on his own.The idiot on here who thinks Darwikwa is not a decent fullback wants his head looking at.Jones had a disappointing game following his great showing at Vale.
Overall it was men against boys, but although I would have liked to have seen us win and the 2 new lads play, I walked away from the ground thinking that the lads had done their best and had softened Scunny up for the big one that counts a week on saturday, when our big boys will show you how its done when we take another 3 pts.
