Mentions seven possibilities- guessing Weir, Nelson, Talbot, Jalal, Evans, Weston and (bit of a long shot) Maguire.

As I said in recent post Weir is not as bad a player as some make out.
However, this has moved from MA not being able to guarantee him a starting place, to asking for a transfer and not taking up his one year contract extension, then being given a squad number, and now named captain whilst no mention as to whether or not he remains on the list.
Surely, it's fair to assume he has now been persuaded to stay and, as captain, will get more game time than first anticipated whilst his natural role is that of a defensive midfielder so where does this leave Wedgbury - are we going to play two defensive midfielders or is he going to play right back?

He could be a lot better than some make out and still be dreadful.
I didn't see enough last season to pass judgement but happy to support MA on it.

Hopefully with the other midfielders attacking it'll show us what a good job he's doing in front of the back 4

Agreed, done nothing on the pitch to warrant been captain. Last year leadership on the pitch was non existant, his captain qualities must have appeared magically over the summer.

Now, I have to say that if you are comparing Weir to Mark Allott then there is no comparison - Mark Allott was a much better player.

Comfortable on the ball, breaking most of their attacks up and getting forward aswell.
Maybe he has found his level?
Maybe MA can get something out of him that JL couldn't?
Maybe the style of football we play suites his game better?
We'll see. But I hope that people will be man enough to accept that IF he has a good season they will acknowledge it.
