I bet he was more interested in protecting his place in history - after all Froome must be closing in on his grand tour wins.
No point picking a winner until after stage 9's cobbles but there are loads of GC riders. I reckon Nibali will make a podium this year.

It gets sillier up there every time. Best thing he could do is follow Bardet up.
As long as he's got his inhaler with him he'll be fine!

It'd be the sensible decision, be like when Rosberg got the F1 title instead of Hamilton!

I’m not convinced that letting him win will take attention from Froome, it could possibly go the other way and make folk say that has Froome been caught and now he’s playing properly he’s not as good. I think that’s rubbish and it’s actually Thomas in great form. At some point they will make the decision about who is supporting who.
What is obvious is that Team Sky have a team strength that are others are struggling to battle against. Last two stages they’ve had loads of numbers on the front then have two riders capable of winning it.

Sky objective must be to put time on Dumoulin in the Pyrenees and then the time trial will sort itself out.
Problem for Dumoulin is who to follow as he has no supporting team.
I think Froome will attack downhill somewhere.
Shame for Nibali - fractured vertebrae when a motorcycle outrider knocked him off.

Bardet must be embarrassed.
