Just been flicking through a book based on our past history. God we've had some great keepers through the years haven't we?
Sam Hardy, Gordon Banks, Alan Stevenson, Ron Powell, Johnnie Osborne, Jim Brown, Steve Ogrizovic (Not a great, but a very decent keeper in his day)
Now that Tommy has signed with us for another few years, do you think that when his contract is up he will go on to one of the big clubs, and maybe international honours, or are the days gone when a player can rise up through the leagues to greatness. I don't think I'm being biased but based on the last 2 seasons, I think he could go on to become the next GREAT Chesterfield keeper.
Mug?? Being wrong never gets boring!

You can go on for ever really. Mick Leonard, Ray Middleton are another couple. We really have been blessed in the GK department haven't we?
Then again I can also remember some not so good, Mick Astbury in the late 80's springs to mind.

Incidentally, just been informed by my old man that went to school and played in the same side as Johnnie Osborne when they were growing up in Clowne. There's summat I never knew!

I hope he can become an international star, while staying at Chesterfield. :) But that's impossible now as the FA and England managers NEVER seem to look below the Premier League for internationals, unless it's the youth squad.

I think that's what DIFH meant when he said slipped through the net. Both local lads who slipped past our scouts and went on to big things.

That's the sad state of our game today though I'm afraid. It's a real shame cos I think Tommy is every bit as good as anything outside the Premiership, and even some in the Prem. Take the lad Derby have just signed, Frank Fielding.Good Keeper, but is he really any better than Tommy?

Just to correct the two misspellings it's actually Lukić

Whilst commonly known as John his actual christian name is Jovan

I used to play football with John and his brother on the local park when we were kids. Scored quite a few past him.
He got better and I didn't.

i seem to recall some fans saying he's too short for a goal keeper..which is rubbish you dont have to be giant.. he has great athletism and reflex's..some of his saves have been hollywood..

its amazing when fans give players a chance !

sooo happy he has signed a new contract..

he is player of the season in my mind.. never had any doubts

perhaps there was one goal, that flukey goal against torquay was it.. he stood off the pitch when the ball crossed in.. what was he doing lol?
TOMMY LEE 'there goes my Hero.. watch him there he goes !'

Went to school (Tapton) with John Lukic's brother and remember playing up front against John when he was at Newbold Green. Never got a sniff of the ball, every time it came into the penalty area he had it - not surprised he turned out to have a successful career. Remember seeing Bob Wilson in school photos on the wall, I think he coached Lukic at Arsenal. Also at primary school played in a Cup Final at Pleasley refereed by Alan Stevenson and Ernie Moss.

Away at Barnet

If your refering to Roche - well he has found his level.

I spoke to a forest ST holder in derby this week, he said that they should have kept Lester, and that Roche was the worse keeper he has seen in a derby kit....EVER.
A new hope.

I believe he can play in the championship, but the top flight and international honours? Not so sure about that.
A new hope.
