The only foul I remember was a Boro player trying to hitch a piggy-back on Bruno!!

And even if Bruno was deemed to be the one committing the foul it was after the Howard's shot had crossed the line

You mean the foul that wasn't in the box being awarded as a penalty etc...

Ellaray. I reckon the man has issues regarding authority. i remember him saying "watch the highlights and youll see why i blew." No-ones ever worked it out. He just lost it, it was a reflex action from a born attention seeker and control freak who has to remind you that he's in charge..
He was a headmaster wasnt he? Strange , strange man. I saw a doc about him where he got out his childhood football scrapbook...it was full of pictures of refs. Anybody but him reffing that game and we'd be in the history books.

I didn't realise Elleray disallowed Howard's goal for a foul on the rebound
Some years ago I was invited to a dinner at Welbeck College where Elleray was the guest speaker. He referred briefly to the disallowed goal and, without any explanation, indicated merely that he thought it might never be appropriate for him to show his face in Chesterfield. How right he was! We were able to participate in a fairly brief question and answer session. I invited him to reply to the deeply felt opinion held by Spireites that the "powers that be" had directed that he was to be careful to ensure that CFC would not appear at Wembley. He declined to respond to my impertinence.

Many Spireites held the "powers that be" opinion. As to Elleray and the linesman making a hash of the decision, you are wrong about the linesman who clearly thought it was a goal as he ran towards the half way line, only to retreat when it became obvious that Elleray hadn't given the goal. Don't just take my word for it, it's recorded for all to see. Are you suggesting that the 'Borough player should not have been sent off for two bookable offences and that the penalty decision was not justified? They are both entirely different issues!

The linesman was as much at fault, he should have stood his ground and waved Ellery over.
Sorry too much happened in the game to suggest any collusion .
