I didn't see last year why everyone was saying we should get Connor signed up. One decent game and a good goal and not a lot else. Too weak and slow for me.

Disappointing so far. Not seen any pre season games btw.

Remember when some people were comparing dimaio to Danny Wilson

Our midfield is so painful, the other team constantly have acres of space to just walk through us.

Following on from the Ched, Connor, Gardner, McGinn, Fulton and Liddle debate...

Ched - not seen him in pre season but feel we're on to a winner - if he can finally clear his name!

Conner - Agree with you.

Liddle - He's ok but I see him more as CM cover. Prefer Angel, but we don't know when/if he will play again.

Gardner - Will be amazed if he makes it. Send him out on loan.

McGinn - Not seen him yet.

Fulton - Saw him play for Portsmouth. Prefer a big keeper, and if he can command the box and take crosses I'll accept him not being as good a shot stopper as TL.

Just a quick note on Rag's. Thought he would be a big sale for us when he first joined but now see him only as cover.

Final analysis: Midfield is going to be our undoing. Indeed, as things stand.

If DW doesn't address this it will be a huge failing on his part, and him a former midfield dynamo at that. A lot depends on the unseen Nolan stepping up to the higher level, unless another CM is being lined up.

Following on from the Ched, Connor, Gardner, McGinn, Fulton and Liddle debate...

Ched - Whatever folk's views on him, he's a step or two above anybody else we have. I was impressed with my first view of him last night and he will only get better.

Conner - Looked a step below what we need to be honest and the game went by him. Tried, but not at the level we desperately need in the middle of the park.

Liddle - Our captain (sigh). For some reason I'm wanting to say the same about him as Conner, but he is supposed to be league one proven. Well I don't see it atm I'm afraid!

Gardner - Though he had a good game tbh and if he played like that in the league and on a far more consistent basis, then we wouldn't be moaning and the comment about a million pound would be true. Far from being worth anything, never mind a million; though it's so frustrating as he has the talent.

McGinn - On the first showing he looked okay and didn't seem out of place. Need to see a bit more of him.

Fulton atm fills me with a lot more confidence than Tommy Lee. I hope this isn't misplaced as he really does look a good keeper.

Just a quick note on Rag's... Thought he played well; and thought it deserved a mention seeing as he got a bit of stick last year.

Final analysis: Midfield is going to be our undoing. Weak, Weak Weak!

Raglan's distribution was appalling, as was his lack of concentration. His passing is non-league. The lad is not progressing like I thought he would.

Agree with the rest though. Our CM is dire. Anyone know when Angel will roughly be back or are we giving up on him?

Edit; ah Tim beat me to it re. Raglan. If Maguire has put some (good) weight on I'd give him some sort of chance, maybe even if it's just that stupid EFL cup thing. You don't know if he'll ever be good enough unless he plays mans football and if he's not gonna get that here he needs loaning out.

As it stands...Dimaio, Gardener and Raglan are nowhere near the required standard for a regular L1 start, and I doubt they ever will be. The rest of the squad is of a good standard IMHO. But we still lack so much quality in depth. The CEO has to accept his part in this. He's simply not up to the job.

No Will Hughes, Martin, ince, christie, butterfield, baird, Brad johnson, carson, keogh, olson, shackell, bryson. All missing and all first choice.

Baird played full 90 last night, Bryson played 70. I would only say though that I think only Bryson, Forsyth, Hendrick stand a chance of been regulars. Hughes is a guaranteed starter so there is 4-5 players vying for that 1 CM spot. Bent will prob be on the bench more often than not and Russell/Wiemann are too inconsistent. I would say the team starting at sheff Utd tonight was nearer the 1st 11.

Hmmm I think we're going to have to rely on Liddle, Nolan and O'Shea for our midfield.

I was talking to Angel at Matlock and what a friendly approachable guy he is. I asked him about his operation and he had just had the stitches removed. I was sat near him and he was in shorts and he showed me the two small lumps, one either side of his knee where the stitches had come out. He was walking, or should I say hobbling with the aid of one crutch. He was very bright and positive and told me he would be out for about another eight weeks - longer than normal for this op. but he wanted to give it as much time as possible to be right. I didn't press him on the eight weeks so I'm not sure if he meant the time to start training or the time to be playing. My guess would be to begin training.

Any knee op and you can regain training within days.
If it was a meniscus clean up (?) he will be running /turning within 2 weeks

Agreed with that Tim, though IF it was a choice between a good midfielder or a good central defender there'd be no choice for me. Christ our midfields p-poor! Unless we've been spoilt for once in that department in the last few seasons and I'm being a bit unfair.

EDIT: Ideally I'd like to see Hird and another as Evo scares me with his lack of pace and turning circle of a tanker  He played well last night though.

Chris Herd wants to come back to play in England already. Our problems could be solved!

No we werent, russell and the irish midfield lad are not reserves, there were other first teamers as well. Bent always plays some part of games.
It looks like theyve split the squad in half.

You're absolutely right. Split into first eleven and second eleven.

thinking on it seems to me we have, perhaps, one fifth of the budget being drained on 2 players who may not contribute at all. Angel £3k a week, SEB £4k a week, (both guesses). Then we have 2 big earners - Tommy barring injury to Fulton and O'Neil, who even if fit wouldn't get into the team of a lot of fans - sitting on their asses.

Meanwhile, in spite of record transfer income, cup income, season ticket sales, and crowd figures holding up in the last accounting period, we haven't got enough cash to give our best prospect a better deal.

What a bludddy state to be in.

Terrible financial mismanagement. Wonder whose job it is to make sure this doesn't happen?

I'm told 3,000 with 1,000 from Derby.

Obviously an estimate (but a reasonable one) to be fair to the club I'm not sure we've ever released testimonial gates, I couldn't find anything for the last two I could reminder Duncan in 2002 and Jamie in 1999

John Duncan v Man Utd 6,583

Jamie Hewitt v Sheff Wed 3,400

Poor old Shane, he deserved a bit better

Given that lack of publicity, the confusion around the status of the game and the apathy around town it could've been worse I suppose

Yep, but Evo is fit. I'm speculating how much of the budget is sat on it's ass.

Not sure, but I think his name is often confused with a root vegetable that used to be the staple diet of pigs (not to be confused with the inhabitants of South Porkshire)
