Dave Allen’s eagerness to cash in has had a negative impact on this season and the consequences of that are the vast majority of decent players that were available have already been snapped up prior to us selling ours. We’ve been left with the cast offs and the injury prone. Expecting our fringe players to suddenly make the grade is delusional at best. We now have a sub-standard squad that the manager is struggling to get the best out of. His tactics don’t suit the players at his disposal and I am fearful that the best we can hope for this season is survival.

Excellent summation.

But if he was that eager to get rid of them, why did it take so long for them to go? So long that all the other decent players had ben snapped up?

Ben? Might help if you supplied a surname...

To get the best transfer fees you normally have to wait until the end of the window. I don’t knock the club for getting the best deals they could (far from it). However, it was pretty much nailed on all summer that certain players were leaving so to not recruit earlier has left us with an unbalanced and inadequate squad. AC arrogantly stated on here that the squad would be stronger. I wonder if he still thinks that now?

BTW – Are you implying DA wasn’t eager to sell players and recoup money?
If only....

Lavery has apparently made up with Calvahal and is training with the first team again.

Whether he gets a chance or not though, the striking options they have is another matter.

He's been in the N Irish squad this season so now will be keener than ever to play first team football with the possibility of going to the Euro's in the summer.

Cooky has been trying to get him down there, but he doesn't want to move from his family.

Sounds like Cookies chasing has paid off and Lavery is off down there on loan.

Says everything about us if we were one of the clubs. What's better for his development, games v Exeter Mansfield and Barnet or Sheffield Utd Coventry and Swindon. Yet he chose Portsmouth

Dont forget the agreement between the clubs as well....suspect with the way Pompey are going at things under Cook they were more than happy to fund more of his wages and potentially a loan fee as well if required.

Total mess, are we unattractive to young reserves on our doorstep, or we aren't interested in him (well, looking at our forward line , how could he not improve it).
Someone has their eye off the ball re transfers and recruitment. A seasons loan for Lavery in Aug would have been preferable to SEB
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

'Pretty much nailed on' is not a basis for going out and signing new players on decent contracts, but it's a good way to end up with a wages budget that's roaring out of control.

so you're saying you agree that's its tough for Saunders to attract player of quality, then?

We weren't.

BUT even if we were, other than location, why would anyone choose a faltering side creating few chances of note, to a fast-flowing, attacking side?

no brainer really.
