It seems so.
Another way of looking at is, Caldwell follows fans advice screaming for a simpler formation (basically more players in the middle of the park where we were being totally overrun) to accommodate our slow and rather average squad and sees immediate benefits.

No. If I thought he was a tactical genius I would say that and I didn't. Can you tell me that what I said is all wrong? But if your asking me who I would rather have faith in with tactics, meaning an ex international player who played in the Premier league and already has a league one championship on his managerial cv or a Brian the blade wannabe then I'm gonna air with GC every time.

And the quote about him following fans advice? C'Mon.....It's been stated on here many a time that GC is supposed to be n arrogant personality, is he really going to bow down to Joe Bloggs sat behind his dugout telling him his job?
Life goes on. Whatever happens.

But the 3 at the back is a base for him to work from. Ok, so it might not have worked for him fully yet but what GC has done (and never had credit for) is that he's assembled a squad that he can tweak during game time without the need to make substitutions all the time. Just like yesterday, he saw the fault and pushed a player who had only been at the club 24hrs into a position where he influenced the game. We can adapt to different formations and each player knows his role and if he does make a substitution to change the game he has a bench that he can put players into different positions to be able to adapt and not look like a square peg in round holes.
3 right footed players in defence yesterday and Wiseman on the left looked every bit as comfortable as DD ever did.

Maybe if people looked at what he's building instead of his record from last season the criticism of him would relent some.

The issues I have are;

- We don't have a proper right wing back despite having three right backs on the books. Wing backs are very different from full backs - Jones and (from what I've seen/heard of Binnom-Williams) are wing backs or can play wing back effectively - Wiseman, Barry and McGinn don't have it in them to supplement the attack enough. They make decent enough full backs, not wing backs. It's a bit criminal to not sign a player for the specialised role he wants to have in his team

- Midfield is questionable overall. Despite having three CMs when we use 5-3-2, we're still very open down the middle especially on the counter. We don't seem to have a 'pick the game up by the scruff of the neck' midfielder, although I'm enjoying Sinnott currently, he's a forward thinking player

- If we want to use three at the back often then we should've signed a left sided CB seeing as we're not using Maguire

Compared to the clowns in the Port Vale technical area then yes.
On reflection there are members of BB that could be classed as tactical geniuses compared to the port vale technical area though.
Derbyshire is Derbyshire
Yorkshire is Yorkshire

Never the twain shall meet.
