For what it's worth I thought we took whatever they'd got to throw at us in the first 20 minutes, or so, as they knew if they scored first our crowd would turn and any confidence we had would be shattered. Even then, Dennis should have done better with the chance Sinnott played him in on. We had to earn the right to play the way we did in the last 20 minutes of the half when we put them to the sword.

The second half was more about making sure we didn't throw the win away as it was increasing our lead. As such, quite a professional performance mixed with phases of sloppy passing which, logically, should be reduced as confidence builds and the team gels.

Lee - organised and fielded very well
Barry - looked better at RB than RWB
Hird - had a spell of sloppy passing and gave away a few unnecessary fouls but anticipation was quite good
Evatt - solid but missed their best chance in the first half
Wiseman - looked better at LB and an improvement on his Grimsby performance
Weir - did the unspectacular stuff well
Reed - worked hard but a number of his defence splitting passes didn't
Sinnott - had a big say in the first half creating 2 excellent chances for Dennis and scoring himself but seemed to run out of steam after 70 minutes
Flores - shaky start but once moved inside started to influence the game until he tired
Dennis - worked hard and another day might have scored more than one
O'Grady - some excellent hold up play, gives our defenders options, and as the team gels can see him gaining a fair few assists

It will be interesting to see what other business we do before the end of the month - for me, I think we need a proper LB and cover for Evatt.

Very fair assessment. Agree about Hird, can't pass to save his life but did the fundamentals right

we had more shots in build up to the second goal than we had in entire games last season.

Correct. He could have. But the card was shown purely because of the reaction by the Port Vale players and bench. Not because the ref saw it as a yellow card right from the off because he allowed play to continue and never blew for the challenge.
Anyhow.
Caldwell needed that today, strangely enough I think that we still have a couple of more gears yet, so whilst the players are gelling at the moment if we can be within shouting distance of the top teams by Christmas then we can look forward to a successful season. A little mention for Wiseman who looked good today, my MOTM.

Many of us would disagree with you about the dreadful "missed" tackle. I rarely criticise individual players but that was as clearer a booking as you'll get. He's an idiot. We were playing out time in the fourth added minute and he nearly cuts their bloke in two. If he'd connected, it would have been a deserved straight red. As for the rest of your post, I agree 100% although I thought there were three or four good displays to run a man of the match contest close.

That was in the spell when their defence did not know wether they were having the proverbial lol

The halftime break came just at the right time for them

In fact for us I thought it was the Grimsby first half performance in reverse and this time we scored two goals for our pressure on their defence

I thought we played better in the second half and scored none. Funny old game.

I think you mean a cockerpoo!

Have you seen a working Labrador? The footballing equivalent would be Scholes!

Were you at the game today? He mis-hit pass after pass to an opposition player or to nobody at all. Same vs County, same vs Wednesday, same vs Grimsby. So yeah, I don't think he can pass.

The switch from 5-3-2 to 4-1-3-2 changed the game in our favour so fair play Caldwell.

Also Sinnott had pelters from most on here after the Grimsby game, I said he'll bag a few this season, pretty confident about that. Goal and an assist today.

Why were the Vale supporters so antagonistic towards Sinnott? Is there some history there or was there something in the game I missed? He seemed to go out of his way to taunt them after his goal.

His Dad (Lee) used to manage the club. He was sacked in September 2008, after relegating them the previous season. But it wasn't until February 2009 that they reached a financial settlement.

Thanks. Presumably not well regarded as manager.

I wasn't actually. Hird makes errors because he is the go to defender to receive the ball from the keeper, even when under pressure. However as I have posted a number of times, he is easily the best passer of our central defenders, helping create a number of goals over the seasons.

On cue, now see yesterday's highlights, and see who was instrumental in both our goals.

It was nowhere near being a tackle. It was an attempt at a flying block, at least a yard from their player.

He should have been booked for kicking the ball into the crowd whilst sub ,add into that sinnotts stupidity at goading vale fans and it shows a lack of discipline that needs stamping out.
ITS NOT THE WINNING,ITS THE TAKING APART

Apparently so, I've added more detail. Seems like his Dad is no longer in the game after being sacked by Altrincham in March 2016.

Well summed up. He's a L1/L2 CB so you can't expect too much passing wise but he definitely not a bad passer. He tries to make things happen.
