Tomorrows programme will contain the announcement of Ernie,Ernie,Ernie!

This will be the authorised biography of Ernie Moss.

Written by myself and Nick Johnson.

I hadn't intended to make this public knowledge for another couple of months, however Ernie Moss Day now seems the ideal time.

The book will cover everything Ernie from his birth up until current times.

There will be interviews and quotes from his family, friends, former team-mates and managers, etc.

The will be plenty of photo's,many previously unseen by most CFC fans.

There will be a complete list of every match played and goal scored from his debut for CFC until his final game for Rochdale.

In addition I intend to devote a section for fans to give their own personal memories and recollections of Ernie.

His non-league career both as player and manager will receive good coverage.

The book will be available in a limited edition hardback and a semi firm laminated cover comprising approximately 300 pages. There are no plans for any sort of electronic publication.

Price will be £15.00 and £10.00 respectively.

The book is to be released on the Friday 26th October,2018,this date being the 50th anniversary of Ernie's Football League debut at Bradford Park Avenue.

The hardback edition will be a limited number only and available by pre-subscription only.

On the date of release a special event will be held on that evening at the Proact Stadium with a three course meal, entertainment, guest speaker and an auction.

Issues 1 - 11 of the hardback book plus other kindly donated items will be included.

Please note that this is a non profit project and every single penny will go to "Team Ernie" and other Dementia related charities chosen by the Moss Family.

Further information will be available shortly via a flyer and social media.

In the meantime if anyone wants to contact with recollections of Ernie please don't hesitate to contact me.

I reckon you'd need a second book, just for the fans tributes section.

A suggestion though. The cover pic, rather than a photo of Ernie rising majestically to head the ball as is usual, how about his one arm in the air goal fist clenched goal celebration?
A new hope.

Comment noted, but can't make any promises.

However the front cover design will soon be decided and on the flyers in a couple of weeks time.

I hope you won't mind me adding my lasting memory of the week when Ernie turned professional for the Spireites, I think in 1967 or thereabouts. He worked in the County Education Department. I worked for the Peak Park Planning Board. We were allowed to take part in the County Council's inter-departmental football matches and on the Monday before he joined Town, he played his very last amateur game against us. The result 7-0 to our opponents with the great man scoring five! Oh happy days!
Ps. The match was at the Whitworth Park at Darley Dale. A regular venue in those days.

Interestingly another soon to be Spireite also turned out in the intercdepartmental tournament albeit one far below Ernie in the talent and fame stakes. When I worked at DCC Scott Cordner also did before joining town and played along with my good self and Forever a Spireite in said tournament. Matches were then played on Cavendish Fields.

I had the honour of watching Ernie play alongside Randall in the 70s. That was without doubt the reason I became a Spireite.

Hi Nigel, this is fantastic news. All of us of that era have so many wonderful memories of Ernie and the great teams that he played in so good luck with sorting out what I'm sure will be an overwhelming response to your request.

Regarding the Education Department comments I know someone who still goes in the Thorntree Inn at Matlock who was either Ernie's manager back in the day or certainly a senior figure who knew him at the time. I'll see if he has any interesting tales to tell.

Some good players have played in those inter-departmental games with me definitely not being one of them! I played in Carl Swan's team (his Dad was Peter of course) when I worked at Clay Cross and once in a cricket match similarly organised on Matlock's ground was a player who had played second tier in Australia; fortunately it was 35 and out and no-one got hurt trying to stop any of his strikes as most of them ended up over the road in Matlock park.

Happy days, Paul.
