And, as mere supporters, isn't that about as far as our concerns should have extended?

I agree, to an extent, but now the "average fan" seems to be jumping on the "our club is being badly run" band wagon.

It doesn't take Hercule Poirot to work out that significant miscalculations have been made.

Erm, no one is saying it does.

My point is, again, that everyone is saying "it was obvious setting the budget based on 7k gates was ludicrous" yet a, no one said so at the time, or complained at what such budget gave us last season,

No one is happy with the current situation, but the club have taken steps to address it.

It's rare for us to disagree, but I can't agree with this.

Can you give me some examples of good housekeeping or control measures that the Club put in place last season to help reduce the deficit?

They've been put in place now, haven't they? Significantly increased turnover this time around and no proportionate increase in the playing budget?

As I said previously, why would/should the supporters complain? If the calibre of recruit is impressive, we will be impressed. That's what we do. The purse strings are beyond our control and, let's face it, somebody else's problem. In any case if a multi-millionaire, hitherto successful businessman owner is happy that things stack up, who are we to complain? Now if his checks and balances are proven to be at best flawed and at worst non-existent, then I end up doing what I do surprisingly often in my day job and sit scratching my head wondering quite how they've managed to amass their fortune in the first place.

what you on about now?

not signing a striker in January, when most people (me included) were saying that a decent striker suited to our style of play would have meant winning the league by miles is surely an example that the club were cutting it's cloth so to speak

fortunately we didn't need one in the end

I meant more recently, this close season to be precise.

It would seem that spending "somehow" got out of hand, for want of a better phrase in certain areas and if the rumours are true, had CT and PC had their way would have got much worse this close-season. The club (or DA probably) have said no, we can't keep spending beyond our means. The budget must be set according to the anticipated income for the season and without the figures to hand, it's hard to disagree with that.

Also, given the players reaction to last weeks announcement, it wouldn't surprise me if some of the bonus schemes had been curtailed somewhat, too.

But we did sign Dan Gardner.......which would have added to the wage bill, and the undisclosed transfer fee also cost money
A new hope.

Another half empty thread... I for one think our current squad bar any significant injuries and selling off more than the odd first team player IS good enough to survive in league 1.
This isn't a pie in the sky statement before all the numpties get on the must requote and say they know we won't stay up because they know **** . You can't KNOW something that hasn't happened, it's called guessing and we can all guess. We have a decent team that over the season should get a a few wins and draws.
Anyway cut this negative crap, the club is where it is, get over it or get gone.
DA and CT are doing a decent job or have you already forgot last season? I am please they forecast 7000 if that meant we got the squad we did and clearly they have already taken steps to put back the deficit.

Dave Allen is being slated by some for not "putting his hand in his pocket" yet these people also say he was naive for budgeting for gates of 7k? How does that work then?

Anyone that assumes DA hasn't put his hand in his pocket really need to view every set of the club's accounts since 2009 onwards!

Yes Chris Turner is doing a 'decent' job

Keep up the good work Chris! Maybe try and actually keep an eye on our finances next time mate but apart from that minor issue you're hitting A* levels.

Right, anyway I'm done moaning now. Time to just man up and get behind the team, you're right about that at least.

He has kept an eye on it.., or how else was the problem be spotted. You also don't know when the problem was actually realised or to what the full extent is / was. Chances are it is now only half the size of what it was in January.
How do you know it is solely CT's fault? He can only make decisions based on the quality of info he is provide with. **** in **** out.
Your just looking for a scape goat... Or you caught CT out on a date with a family member of yours didn't you?? :-) your attack looks personal. Let it go my friend, let it go.

DA amassed his fortune mainly from his casino/dogtrack businesses.Running a successful football club is entirely different and relies a lot on a rich benefactor ploughing in their own money knowing that the chances of seeing a return are slim at best. This is the main reason he took so much flack at Hillsborough and now to a lesser extent at Chesterfield.

if you can't know something that hasn't happened then how can you know that this squad is good enough without us kicking a ball. I would say that is the exact definition of pie in the sky.Anyway if you have to resort to insults to try and get your point across then maybe your don't have much belief in your argument so I suggest you get over it or get gone pal.
