Fair play to him. I think if I had my dream of pro football snatched away from me, I don't think one of my mates then being offered that dream would get me buzzing, I think it would make me feel worse.

Most lads I played with did exactly this. Got let go at 16/17, got a trade under their belt and play semi pro locally. I've known friends turn down pro deals later on in life, because it was be a financial step back

We all know the sensible side of things but I doubt at that age many of them can see the bigger picture when they are first told. If it didn't affect them then I'd say they didn't want it enough in the first place

I agree.
Which is best being in the squad of a Div 1 team and hopefully getting on as sub in a Paint Trophy game and then after a season being a regular on the subs bench. Be seen by other Div 1 teams. Gaining professional training/playing systems and gaining professional insider knowledge. Less money overall but able to totally concentrate on playing football If things don't work out look for club and learn a trade/degree etc but if things do work out end up playing for a Championship club.
Or being a semi-pro, training after work, playing in the 1st team regularly but earning less than a "professional squad player" but overall with the "trade", earning more money. Only really seen be lower league part-time teams and less chance of reaching a higher standard of football and the wages that go with it.
At the end of the day it is about hard work and good attitudes.

Flippant Comment.
Beesley has been injured for a majority of the season and Maguire has played in every single reserves match and been captain for a large majority.
Being a 1st year pro though you find your paths blocked by more experienced players which has been the case with Maguire.
More often than not they are victims of circumstance, I agree with you on that.
